The Salesman told me......

That my brand new Jeep has 80 onboard computers. It has more technology than an F22 fighter Jet. It runs 500 million lines of code just backing out of the driveway. I put the first 100 miles on it today. It's much more vehicle than I expected.

I wouldn't go that far. Then again, that's why they're called salesmen.

Yeah, A Jeep doesn't even have a fraction of the technology that an F-14 does. And that was designed in the 60's and commissioned in the early 70's.....

I thought you might be right on the first pic, but the second one looks more like Crush.

It's Dozer. It was cloudy and getting dark.

I'm so happy I can't stand it. I feel like Arnold Swartzenegger driving a hummer.

Congratulations. BTW your salesman was lying. There is a fool proof way to tell. Check to see if his lips are moving when he talks.

I had no idea Lockheed Martin code writers were selling Jeeps now.

OP, I can't give you any hard proof without a lot of time googling. Frankly, it's a waste of time.

Suffice to say, the salesman is wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong.

Although I can absolutely believe the 500 million lines of code part. There's nothing in modern vehicles that isn't computer controlled any more.

That's not the half of it. Jeeps can also fly, swim, play guitar and cook dinner. Not sure why people buy anything else.

Counting lines of code isnt a real justification on how complex the computer systems are. I could probably write a 500 line function to add two numbers.
Also, "computers" in this sense isnt necessarily something as powerful as your laptop, or even your cellphone. There are many MICROcontrollers on these vehicles controlling things like the radio, bluetooth, transmission, dashboard, etc etc etc. Each one of those is a separate controller, but it doenst have a hard drive and dual cores and gigs of memory each. There might be one 16 bit controller with 256k of memory controlling the transmission. that can be considered a "computer"

Ok, I normally dont step in and make jackass comments... But my God... I litterally am still laughing as I type this... I have lost control of my hands and cannot stop this...

2009 F22R -142.6M USD.
2012 JKU - 25.5K USD.

500M Lines of code backing out of the driveway, maybe 10 seconds?... The server that mamages the DOD global interface does not process at that speed/time ratio, and I can attest to that first hand.

None of this is aimed at you OP, but I can say for sure your salesman definitely knew how to get you psyched up enough to buy a Wrangler on the spot.

I am still laughing...

Since the Jackass comments have started I feel the need..... If you had bought a Rubicon it would have 700 Million lines of code !!

Yeah, the context he was telling me this was when he was selling me the extended warranty. He was saying the complexity of the systems was such that you would need the Dodge Jeep to be able to analyze the computers, and he remarked you would only be able to get the parts from us anyway.

And that how complex the systems were you should get the extended coverage. Some of the systems like the traction control and stuff do require some fast processing. Just the compass function makes thousands of calculations based off GPS probably. The outside temperature, all electronic. Voice recognition. There's a lot going on.

Thanks everybody for the compliments. More dozer:

Go and take a peek in your dealer's service bay at who is working on the vehicles. Then go back and read what you just wrote about computer systems.

I guess I'll have to look into a new Jeep if it comes with a hud and targeting computer. I wonder if sidewinders and hellfires are on the options list?
