If you ram your door into my jeep, you will get and deserve a dented door. I am remorseless about it and the other person deserves what they get. Same instance here, I'm not bashing the op at all.

That's what I was looking for: complete ownership of putting on those suckers for the sake of protecting one's vehicle. There's my accountability and there's my responsibility. So long as they respect my vehicle, I respect theirs. But if they don't respect mine, theirs will not be respected.

If you hit my jeep, my jeep hits back. But what came first? You hitting my jeep or my jeep hitting back? If this guy had never hit the op's jeep in the first place, the op's jeep would never have had to hit back.

I want others to take responsiblilty for their own actions, as I take responsibility for mine.
You seriously make zero sense. You come off as saying the OP is responsible for the damage the other person caused to their own car, them come back and say you do EXACTLY the same thing.

I refuse to take responsibility for someone else's actions, even if it involves my Jeep. What you are proposing is exactly what is wrong with this country.

But seriously, what part of DFW are you in so I can avoid you like the plague?

Since I don't have sliders or a lift (yet) I make sure to protect my Jeep the best way I can. I drive my wife's minivan when I have to go to Wal-Mart.

Slightly off topic...

Yesterday I backed into a parked car in the parking lot (slow and my spare hit their trunk). Did a tiny amount of damage.

I left a note, apologizing and with my number.

They have not called!!?? It's killing me! Call me already!

There's nothing wrong with handicap spaces as long as those who use it use it correctly.

But I digress. Back on topic eh?
I just want to point out that not everybody with a handicap placard gets around in a wheel chair. They might have a condition such as rheumatoid or psoriatic arthritis that makes walking painful, especially walking 100 yards from a parking spot to the mall entrance, especially with a tired toddler begging to be picked up, you get the picture. My wife has a placard for such a condition. Don't be in such a rush to judge.

Could be they're illiterate. Could be they're illegal and/or uninsured. Could be they have warrants. Could be they have a dead hooker in the trunk and don't want any attention.
Just look at it as an unexpected, but delightful turn of events. (unless it turns out there were dead hookers in the trunk.....nobody wants a prostitute-murdering serial killer on the loose)

What probably happened was, they threw note on ground without reading it thinking it was junk soliciting. Then got home and saw damage and started cursing you out to their significant other saying that some ahole hit the car and took off. Haha

This is why I always park next to another Jeep if at all possible. I am one of those that parks way out and I get really pissed when I get back to my Jeep and can barely get the door open. Good reason to take the doors off though.

Now he is mad at me for damaging his vehicle. Where has respect for others property and taking ownership in your own actions gone?
Since he has a bogus claim for damages I'd provide him with payment in bogus currency. Send him a pad of those $1,000,000 Obama stimulus bills.

So it looks like this went way out of control. Mostly was just venting not trying to cause some knock down drag out over it.

Generally I do park in the back, or next to another Jeep if available.

Just upset that he was mad at me over his actions. Have had other people ding my vehicles and they have all been minor scrapes and the apology was all I ever needed, guess it is just the way I was raised.

After sleeping on it I'm pretty much over it, live and learn.

P.s. soon as I can stop working 60hrs a week I hope to be rid the mall crawler status

What you need to remember is that person could have given you your right to open that pie hole of yours so think before you offend another person.

I do have to admit that there are a lot of folks that abuse the tag and allow others, ie there kids to use the tags and that is not right.

Back to topic at hand, I had a lady leave a note on my Jeep to contact her so she can file a claim with my insurance company, whaa ha ha!
I've made the mistake of letting myself get "annoyed" (for lack of a better word) with people parking in handicapped spots, who would get out of their vehicles and appear to be completely fine. I'm a pretty young guy, and while I don't use that as an "excuse" for making this immature judgement, I do sort of laugh at myself for it, and recognize that I'm still a young idiot with plenty to learn - this was a great example for me :-)

I learned one day that someone who appears to be completely fine (from my parking spot, 20 yards away) might have a lot more reason to park in that spot than I could ever imagine.

Duckquackers, I had a huge post typed out for Courtney first (coming soon), but had to go back and delete it, so that I could type this first. I've made that crappy mistake of judging handicapped parkers before, and learned from it, so I want you to know that at least one person in here (probably a lot more!) do understand that not all scars are visible, and not all sacrifices are known to bystanders. Sure, I'm sure some abuse it. But I know there are a lot who don't, but who also don't show immediate outward signs of need.

Next time I feed my pie hole, I absolutely will think about those people who have sacrificed for me - known or unknown - and be grateful for their sacrifices, even if I will never know them or understand what they gave for me.

Have to say - awesome story, quite funny :-) Read it to my wife, and she laughed. Thanks for the entertainment :-)

Courtney - to be honest, I stopped reading your posts about half way through page 2, because I came to the conclusion that I'll never see eye to eye with you on this one. Then, I went back through, because I DID want to post a comment on this, and I felt like I owed it to you to read all of your comments, before posting my own.

Truthfully, I don't think I (or anyone else in here?) understood what you were asking for. I really don't want to get in to some internet war, but I just didn't understand what the problem with the OP's post was.

Here's what I read from the OP:
he witnessed someone cross the line of the a parking zone (not explicitly stated, but implied) and damage his property (a scratch is a scratch, whether it's on a slider or on a $250,000 Ferrari). My impression is that the OP would have been happy to laugh it off, and not really care about the slider scratches, even though he would have been well within his rights to be upset. With that said, the person who crossed into the OPs parking spot and struck the OPs property proceeded to complain about the OPs property (again, I don't really care if the collision was with a slider, a Ferrari, a tank, or a freaking boulder), and attempt to displace the blame onto the OP.

And then, you proceeded to question the OP as to why he didn't take responsibility.

Have you crossed a solid painted traffic line before, and hit someone on the opposite side of it, and then blamed someone else?

Again, not trying to start an internet war, but I'm totally confused on what you're trying to get across to the group. I'm not trying to fight, honestly, just trying to understand another perspective.

Lastly, back on topic - will the factory Sahara steps on a JK provide the same/adequate/any protection in these sorts of situations?

That said, I can park 2/3 of the way back and generally it takes me not more than 30 seconds to reach the 1/3 or closer point in parking lot (aka the "good" parking spaces). It's absurd - people will spend five to fifteen minutes lapping a parking lot to save 30-60 seconds of walking. At the point I'd say you qualify for O2 Thief status until proven otherwise.
I am the same way. I have had people cut me off to wait on a car about to back out. I will park further out and walk past them while they are still waiting for the person to load their groceries. I like parking a little further out as it makes it easier to get out of the parking lot.

On a side point, I love these inconsiderate morons that dent people's cars, as I fix those dents for a living and they pay for the mods on my Jeep!

fun fact and slightly off topic, but "trolling" is also a fishing technique, not to be confused with "trawling."

while trawling is dragging a net, trolling is trailing a baited line behind a boat.

Well... the reason I went to town was to get materials to get the hi-lift jack mounted. Honestly cant wait to have time to scratch it up from rocks.

So according to some, an unattended Jeep that is properly parked somehow incurs responsibility in a property tort action when another vehicle is damaged?

This explains a lot of ills in the U.S. and the Western world.
