Thinkin of buying Rock Lobster JKU question

I found a JKU sport rock lobster about 2 hours from me with pretty much all of the options I want. I do really like the rock lob despite all of the hate for it. I did go this past Monday to a local dealer to look at a 2014 flame red both are priced within 100 of each other. The 2014 the dealer just would not budge on the sticker price. I'm trying to see how much you all think is realistic to talk down the 2013. I don't know if its because I'm a lady that these man dealers think they can take me. Here is the window sticker break down

JKUSport base 25795.00
24s 2500.00
conn 495.00
dual top 2185.00
auto 1125.00
3.73 195.00
anti spin 295.00
alpine 395.00
Sirius 195.00
total price 34175.00

Dealer is coming in with price at 32,684.00

I feel they can do better plus this RL has been sitting on there lot and they have a RL Sahara too.

Please any help would be greatly appreciated for this girl!!!

Thanks

I would tell them you are looking at purchasing a 2014 Wrangler that has not been sitting on the lot forever, with all the same options, for exactly the same price....and if they don't get down to 29,500 they wont get your business.

There is a 2013 information thread just like the 2014, and it has invoice pricing listed. I think there is also a spreadsheet buried in there somewhere that will help you calculate invoice pricing with all the options.

I'd figure out the invoice pricing, then knock off 2% (which is usually pretty easy to get) and then subtract another grand for helping HIM out by taking last year's model off his lot. If he still refuses to play ball, I'd start looking at 2014 colors and see if there's another option you're happy with that isn't Rock Lobster. Just doesn't seem worth the depreciation for last year's model, even though it is still new.

Good luck!

If they won't sell based on your price point another option is go to an auto broker or join a credit union. Many times they can leverage their purchasing power and get you what you want.

Sorry, June. Maybe it was just too old.

Were you able to find the price list though? It should be one of the first few posts. Have to do the math the old fashioned way (LOL), but at least you'll know what people were paying for them when they were TRULY brand new, and adjust your bottom line accordingly.

The 32,684 number is pretty much invoice on that vehicle. You should be able to get about 2% under that so around 32 even would be a pretty good deal.

Local dealer in Michigan had a 2013 2 door Rock Lobster Rubicon - emailed them and they would do Employee Pricing for me (just Affiliate's code for me). Went and looked at it and drove it ....wife and I did not like the Rock Lobster - just not ready for it ...........asked what they could do for a 2014 to order in another color and the manager came back to us with $1500 below invoice pricing for the 2013 Rock Lobster ........... it had been on their lot a long time .........you have got to like the color! Check the ship date on the window sticker to see how long it has been there and make an offer ............they will show you the sheet which has MSRP, Friends and Family/Affiliates pricing and EP (employee) .........

Unfortunately OP, it sounds like there are no bargining chips on the table. That Wrangler WILL sell - either to you or to someone else. To who it will go to, the dealership doesn't care.

Either pay their price or go somewhere else.

I think if you like the RL then that is what you should get. I think 32K is a decent deal on it you may be able to get them to toss in window tinting or something on the deal but jeeps just don't drop in price that much. Yes sometimes you can get a little more but its not all that common.

I had to get my Rock Lobster from a dealer swap about an hour away...and there are about a dozen dealerships in the area. Some people hate the color, others love it, get the one you want and if you pay a couple of hundred extra, you still got what you want.

Foles75 love you jeep.

I do know that jeeps don't drop crazy in price but I do know people get plenty % off or at least some off.

Seeing as this forum has so much info and people who are so willing to help and share their personal stories. I figured some wise souls would help and some did.

I do love the RL but I also don't want to be taken by the dealership. Not many people just go and pay sticker price just cause jeeps sell well they try to get a deal and that's all I am trying to do

You shouldn't need to go this extent but in the worst case you can join Tread Lightly for $100 which enable you to get a Chrysler Affiliates certificate that enables you to get 1% below sticker. That is not an outstanding deal but it's reasonable for models in high demand.

You aren't. Don't get soured by the "good deals" that you hear about on here. While many on this forum may not like the RL color, there are plenty of people beyond the Internet forums that do.

And with the internet being largely accessible and more people willing to purchase a new Wrangler from outside and far away from home, you face competition. Wranglers move quickly.

Given that RL is a discontinued color, more in that color are not bring produced. The supply goes down each day.

That being said, someone is going to buy the vehicle. And that someone is going to pay the price for it that the dealership wants and the dealership knows this.

If you want a good deal, forget the RL color and go shop for a 2014 color. You'll get an extra year of warranty and you'll have more bargining chips on the table. Especially for Wranglers with colors that are readily allocated.

Otherwise, pay what the dealership is asking and get them to throw an extended warranty for free on the back end. Again, Kudos.

Above you say sticker is a little over 34K and they are offering a little over 32K To me your not paying MSRP. I would say 32K plus tax and tags is a fair deal. I would not pay more then 32 for it so if they try to add more then tax and tags the deal is not as good. 3K off is nearly as good as you can get so that is why I say ask them to toss something into the deal. Maybe some tint, and tire/wheel warranty or something.

Dealers are not discounting 2013 because the value is so high. 2014's come with a $400 increase in MSRP so make your best offer and wait. I always use email so no commissioned salesman commission is included in your price!

The Canadian marketplace still has the 3250 rebate on the 2013s, and nothing on the 2014s. Man, did that ever clear inventory in the last month.

The only left over 2013's I see around here are all RL color....I'm not so sure they will sell at retail....a deal will be had when then the dealers are tired of it sitting on the lot.

Also you will not get an extra year of warranty if you get a 2014 instead of a 2013....warranty starts on the beginning of service date and they'll both have a 3yr/36k warranty from that date.

I do agree on not getting soured by some of the "good deals" people post on here....if they are getting a brand new Wrangler for 10% under invoice and extra goodies thrown in I'm not buying it....then bragging about their awesome bargaining skills.....BS....they are probably trading in a vehicle worth thousands more than they are being allowed. If you get the vehicle at a price you feel is fair and you're happy with the deal then it's a "Good Deal"

Thats crazy that Canada is offering that rebate I wish they did that here in the states.

Dixiedog you are right I asked the dealer when i spoke to him agian and the warranty starts once I buy.

I feel I am getting a fair deal. He came down some more so I cant complain. I am happy its a "Good Deal". The dealers here on long island do not want to go down at all. So a little car ride and a salesman that is friendly without even meeting me it great.

Rather than seeking opinions, on here, you would get more accurate information, based on actual sale prices in your area, at Edmunds.com True Market Value.

Our prices are likely higher to begin with though. To put it in actual dollars, I bought our 2013 gecko Sahara unlimited in August for 33400 (includes dealer fees, but excludes taxes) That's dual top, remote start, painted hard top, connectivity, Sirius, automatic. I may have been able to get a better deal on another colour, but there wasn't many geckos left to chose from. Rock lobster came out later in the model year, that's why there are some left. It's a great colour, and looks awesome with the contrasting black fenders on the sport.

Good call! I did not know that.

Fwiw, the deal she's being presented with for the RL is a really good one. And for the 2014, not too shabby. It seems to me like she can't go wrong with either, but it's her call.
