Thinking about a big road trip, any takers?

An accident last December has made me rethink things and I have speed up the process of checking things off of the oll "bucket list". One thing on the list is to run the Rubicon trail and I have half a very good mind to do it this year during the summer. The idea is to drive my JK from East Texas, do the trail, and drive back home while making some life long memories for me and my daughter along the way.

Anyone on this forum that would be intrested in meeting up and running the trail with us when we get there? Or better yet anyone else have plans of doing the same thing this year and possibly meeting up along the way for the drive across county?

I'd really like to do it before it gets totally ruined, when were you thinking?

It really depends on when and where I'll be moving, should happen in the spring. I'd really like to go next summer.

Just a thought, if you can't find anyone to go with you could always sign up for the Rubicon Jeep Jamboree, its from August 7th to August 10th. The only problem I can see with that is I'm sure it gets crowded which meets lots of waiting for obstacles...

I could be in for something like that. I would jump on the oppurtunity to go with someone more experienced. If I make it, could possibly meet up in Arizona with ya.

I would be down for the trip as well. Plenty of time to prep, gather gear, and iron out the details. Best of all--------no crowds. Experienced guides would be a plus.

Next week when I get back home I am going to see if I can't draw out a good plan for this trip. Picking a month that might be good for others is pretty easy for me since I have two weeks off every month.

July is HOT. Is May too early, would that leave snow on the trail up there still?

I haven't been able to plan it out in much detail yet. I am out in the middle of no where for work and the data connection is so terrible that it takes forever just to check the WF app. When I get home next week I am going to get plan made up. I don't plan on driveing more then 500 miles a day. That's about all I could handle in my jeep before wanting to put a bullet in my head.

My daughter will still be in school during May and I am going to Mohab in April so I need to give myself some time to fix anything that I might break before hitting the road on a trip like this.

Depending on the route you take, I may be interested in joining you for part of the way. I live in the DFW area.
Right now, my Jeep is my daily driver and I'm not due to buy my truck until 2015.....which means no hardcore off-roading for me for a while....just weekend trips to the hunting lease on muddy roads.
Keep us all updated on your ideas.

Are you driving your rig out there as well? Do you have ideas on your plans (timeline) for that trip? Get with me on that as well. It is also on my list for next year. I wouldn't run the same trails as you, but can caravan either to or from.

Edit: On my phone so I don't know if my location shows. I'm in Houston (well Pearland to be exact).

Looks like this is turning into the 1st annual "Watch This Jamboree".. We will be in Ouray, the first12 days of July, but depending on what your days are, we might make a side trip before coming home. Waiting on updates.

Just did my first step of getting ready for the trip. I had to replace a tire that I just trashed, so I went ahead and ordered 3 so hopefully I will be able to bring two spares along. I have 8 now hopefully I will still have 6 by July. If not maybe they will still be in stock if something need to order one.

I just got home this morn and it being Thanksgiving I won't sit down and plan a rought out till the weekend or so.

MapQuest Maps - Driving Directions - Map

Well I started looking at what way and how long I am going to travel every day. So far it looks like leaving on July 9th, getting there on the 12'th spending the 13'th/15'th in the area, leaving out on the 16'th and getting back on the 19'th or maybe the 18'th. I tend to travel harder and longer on the last part of a road trip.

Supposedly, the Trail Rated badge means that the Wranglers have been designed to navigate the Rubicon Trail. I have also read that there are bypasses around the more difficult areas, but I don't know for sure. There is alot of information on the Interweb about the Rubicon Trail, you may want to do some deep research to see if you think that you can make it.

Good Luck!
