Thinking of a new 2 door JK

Hello boys and gurls

Former owner of a 1992 4.0 wrangler softtop short doors. 15 yrs ago.....

I think my next ride will be a 2 door wrangler ,, First and formost AUTO.

Then Im thinking a Rubbi would be nice, but I also dont get off road much at all, so I Sahara with the more road going tires would be nice.

Does the Sahara have front and rear lockers like the Rubbi? I know it has the smaller front axel, and the same rear. Also does it come with the rock crawler tranny like the Rubbi?

I dont think My 1992 4.0 had any lockers, and it got around just fine.

With 0% and lifetime warrenty on tranny and motor,, this seems like a no brainer.

A few other questions,,, how much is a softtop , or the freedom hard top, and half doors, this will help me option out my ride.

Also those with the gps head unit, how do you like it, and what would the after market have similar to this? And what is the dealer charge to have one installed after purchase.

Pretty much I want a white 2 door,,, Sahara dosnt come in White thou.

I could also go the cheap route and just get an X with a locking rear and softtop and short doors. Then add rims and tires latter.

Im thinking some true road tires and a set of 17 or 18" rims would make for a nice street ride, while having a set of off raod tires for winter and off roading.

Im use to changing them out as Im currnetly in a BMW 335i,,, of which Im looking to do a lease assumption in order to purchase a new JK.

Thanks all,,,,,

Look for my next thread in which I tackle a BIGGER question and worry.

Welcome to the forum. And hopefully back to Jeep ownership

Mine is a 4 door. I wanted the extra towing capacity mainly and a few other reasons see some of my most recent posts on the reasons.

I'm sold on the standard. I like the control.

I own the Rubicon and love the features. Totally satisfied.

Those are standard on the Rubicon but optional on the Sahara. You might be able to order a Sahara with some of those options. The standard options are published on the jeep.com web site.

The lockers are front and rear on the Rubicon. Very nice feature.

I don't see anything about a rock crawler transmission anywhere on the jeep web site or in the owner's manual of my Rubicon. Possibly a type on tranny on an older Rubicon model?

Lockers are nice but the traction control system that uses the ABS on the Sahara is pretty sure footed as well. Probably not use them very often but it does add maximum flexibility.

I agree, makes me drool. Really shoots a hole in my resale value. Them's the breaks though. When I purchased it, I planned on keeping it for a very long time. So the resale value will not be a factor when I sell it. Go for it, let the forum know what you get. We love to see new bling.

If you plan on having both, some come with a dual top group. If you don't get the dual top group, it will be easier purchasing the hard top and getting the soft top aftermarket. I have heard some folks purchasing their top on line for pretty cheap. Mine was full price at the dealer (slight discount because it was purchased and included in the closing cost). I have full doors but am looking at soft doors for the summer.

I had the entertainment system upgrade $1200.00 sticker price for the option. Totally worth it but more to go wrong on the radio. Best sound system I have ever had as a stock installed system. I consider myself a pretty discerning audiophile. I am a master electronics technician and have had advanced electronics training with full understanding of the underlying electronics. The entertainment system in mine sounds awesome. Crisp high frequency response and rich bass response. Only way to improve on the bass response would be to get a bass box and amplifier system. Not into the audio that much that is why I happy with it the way it is.

Nothing that couldn't be solved by a paint spray can!

Buying and building seems to be a repeating theme around this forum. Just make sure and post pics.

I hear a lot of chatter on the forum about the cheaper price of rubber on 16" rims as compared to 17 or 18 inch.

The mud tires that come on the Rubicon are not that loud compared to the A/T tires on the Sahara. They add traction if you take them off road. I think it is a good compromise tire for those who use it as their only car as a commuter and will go off road nicely too. That is how I use mine.
