Thinking of upgrading

Hi everybody, I'm new, so just yell if I'm posting this question in the wrong spot I have a 95 yj that I'm pretty happy with, but I've got the bug to get a jk. I found a 2008 rubicon lifted, with 35x12.50 bf's, custom bumpers etc. 37k miles for 26k$ I've done some research and this seems like a pretty good deal, and the jeep looks like it's never seen a trail. My concern is that not only will it be for trails it'll be my daily driver. My yj has been very dependable, but I've heard some people have had a lot of electrical issues with their 08 jks. I thought about just upgrading my 95 but it's a 4cyl, and by the time I put lift, axles, tires, new engine etc, it would cost a lot of $ what do you all think? thanks

This is just me, but personally, I'd just look at getting a new one. You won't spend that much more money, it'll be new, you'll have the newer engine, and you won't have to worry about whether or not the guy that lifted the '08 cut corners lifting it.

Jeeps hold their resale value extremely well, meaning you just aren't gonna find an amazing deal on a used one really.

It's also rather easy to make one look like it's never seen a trail, especially if the owner is an experienced Jeeper. I spent 3 days cleaning my TJ before I took it to trade it in. The guys at the dealership commented about how they couldn't believe I'd avoided the temptation of taking that thing out in the mud......

Nope, she never got muddy!

Hahaha nice. Yeah that's kind of what I was worried about with it already having the lift kit on it. I've helped two of my friends put lifts on their tj's....and know exactly how much beer we had while we installed them.

There's another good point. 3 cases of guiness lifting my tj. Jk gets lifted really soon and the boys are already hinting at what kind of beer they like.

Sorry I'm using this Wrangler forum as an app on my phone, and didn't realize anyone else had responded haha. It's an 08 two door rubicon, auto, 2.5 inch lift, 35 bfg mud terrains, warn winch, and smitty built xfc bumpers, 37k miles. I ended up buying it, I got them to take 24,000 for it. So far I love it, no complaints at all.

Any time you buy a jeep with previous mods (BE CAEREFUL)--Does it drive OK, no wandering, ride is firm, no bouncing, 4hi/4lo WORKS ?

Do you see any leaks ?, hear any "grinds ?, reverse is OK ?

Could be a good setup !does it have any records/carfax/dealer/VIN ?

Good luck

I went and looked at it again the day after you had said this and looked way closer than I had the last time: couple dings in the muffler, a few scrapes on the tranny skid plate, and some scratches from trees on the hard top. It had been wheeled for sure, you were right. Just wanted to say thanks for the help, I ended up buying it but, because of your comment I checked it over way more thoroughly than I would have otherwise.

Congrads-keep an eye on the engine oil level and either have a shop, or mechanic, or YOU check the diff levels, xfer case and especially the auto--does it have an aux cooler--IT SHOULD !

Thanks jimbo! Yeah checked the carfax, first thing I did was find a dirt road and check the 4hi/lo and engage the lockers (while shouting loudly "lockers engage!" Cause I'm a dork haha) loved my yj, and now love my jkr, my wife has an 08 liberty, can't see myself being in anything but a jeep. Thanks for the help!

Sounds good, just remember that these are very picky "lockers" and have many special attributes/rules !
