third brake light

I need a third brake light to clear a 35" spare tire on a 2012 JKU.

I'd prefer not to have to rent a tower crane, sawzall and / or an assistant with a phD to install.

Any suggestions?

Check out the ones on quadratech the fit into the empty lug holes on the spare. About $30-$40 I think.
Or like Daggo said, run without one, that's the easiest/cheapest way to do it

They can "claim" that all they want. It's a requirment for the manufacturer to have it there, not the owner. The person who hits you from behind is always at fault, period. We all survived just fine without them prior to 1986.

if you have a 35" tire you probably need to upgrade your spare tire carrier
I used one of these and it extends the third brake light,
just a little over $100 its a smittybuilt

While it is true that states only require two brake lights for the most part, many will also make it illegal to remove a manufacturer installed safety device such as a third brake light.

That's probably what I'll try first. I've been pulled over here before for having my third light burned out, though. Then again, I do know most of the cops in this area cuz of my job...five warnings for speeding in the last 10 years. Got one ticket, from a trooper so fresh outta the Marines his trouser creases looked shellacked. On my way back from photographing Prez Obama in Green Bay, no less!

Thanks outlaw. I posted another thread about that last night. Just what I was looking for. Just a bolt-on, or am I gonna have to drill?

Nope. Waiting on the tires...If it works without mods, then no worries. But I'm a CYA kinda guy. Plus, I'm in St. Louis right now covering the NLCS, and have nothing better to do in my hotel room than plan my build.

Except drink, which probably wouldn't be a good idea right now...

Stock, the tire rest very nicely on the bumper notch and while it may eventually torque the hinges, it seems as tho' it'll take several years to cause any noticeable damage. This is a very well worn 35 tho', and each tire varies in it's actual size....

It's a bolt on deal
I used the holes for the 37" tire so my 35" rests slightly on the rear bumper
