third brake light

I have a 2010 Wrangler 4 door. The third brake light has gone out and the dealership says the only way to fix it is to replace the top half of the assembly. I cant just replace the bulb. Cost $125. Is there no way to change the bulb? Any suggestions?

If it's a 2010 and not a wear part should it not be covered under warranty?

Is this not a warranty item? Anyway I believe the 3rd brake light is an LED assembly so they will screw you harder on those.

Bulbs are not typically covered by warranty, I don't believe..... But then, I've been wrong once before

If it's not covered under warranty and it's going to cost you $125 then I'd upgrade to a LED 3rd brake light and plate mount for $40.

If you still using the stock spare mount, I'd cut that ugly stock brake light off and relocate the light and plate to the center of the spare.

Your dead right but this if led ( never looked ) would be a board that has failed and with the age of the vehicle even if I only lost part of the array I would make them fix it. Losing the entire light is a defective part. Warranty.

I think I will try to get them to fix it under warranty. If they wont fix it then get the center light on the spare tire. Much cheaper.

Bulbs are not covered, but since the assembly has to be replaced and therefore defective I would definately push for it to be covered. Contact Chrysler if you have to.

While led lights are not replaceable " cost effectively" you do not have to have the whole top piece to be replaced. The LED housing can be removed from the tire carrier itself leaving just the LED housing assembly. There is a wire harness , disconnect and bring it to the dealer. It still wont be cheap, Take the tire off the carrier and you will see some black screws , It will come apart and you will see what I am trying to explain.

I do all off my own maintenance and repairs, I would not pay that. I rather order a nice LED light from AutoZone or other Auto Center and do a nice install for a quarter of the price. My Warranty you say??? UUMMM<, I will never let the Stealer-ship touch my Jeep unless it really needs to, and I decide wich tech I know personally , to work on my Jeep....period...

When you have time, check your carrier , as far as taking out that LED housing unit.
