Third brake light options...

Just installed the teraflex hinge and carrier on my jeep. I am looking for third brake light suggestions besides the bracket that teraflex provides.

Thanks

What state do you live in? Some states don't require it.

Va. They do require it. ): or I would just go without. I don't like the look of the stock one covering my wheel. That is why I am looking for options. Maybe someone has a good cheap idea they wanna share.

Did you get the new or old version of the 3rd brake light from Teraflex?

I did not know there was a new or old version. I got the one that you cut the factory 3rd brake light and install it on a bracket that kinda looks like like a fat spread h. Run some really long lugs in to hold the wheel on and bolt everything to that. Places it somewhere near center of the wheel. I don't like the way it looks kinda just floating there in the center of my wheel with this huge light.

Lets see if this works. This is the bracket. Maybe it kinda looks like a Honda logo.

I'm running the TF carrier and went w/ the ORO Plate light. It's LED and has a license plate and 3rd brake light in it. Works great.

I modified and moved the stock 3rd light to the hardtop. Cost less than a buck and an hour or so of time...

I'm running the little led 3rd brake light from AEV. Kind of pricey...but it's unobtrusive and bright, sitting between the spokes of my (AEV) spare. Easy to wire up and mount using the stock wiring harness.

So here it is the third brake light I am choosing to use. Going to bend up a some metal paint it black and mount it using the third brake light mount that came with the kit. We will see how this project turns out.

Center cap custom LED brake light

Several, actually! That thread starts with my first attempt that failed because I didn't know that LEDs needed resistors when wired to 12vDC. If you just buy prewired LEDs online (I have ordered ones from a few places now) you can get them already set up to wire directly to your Jeep.
I found that 5mm LEDs fit nicely in the bolt holes of my spare wheel's center cap, so I wired it up! Don't have a pic of it on the Jeep right now, because I'm changing rear bumpers this weekend if the new ACE comes in, so I did a shoddy job actually running the wire from the spare to the tailgate.
The sealant is just hot glue!

I got the same one you did. I think that is the new one. All the pics the vendors have are of the old one. I was a little ticked when it showed up. Called the vendor and asked about it. I went ahead and installed it anyway and began my search just like you have. Somehow after searching for awhile the one I installed grew on me. Now it will stay on. Good luck on your search. The ones posted on here look good.

Here's mine, it's a hitch mounted light. Since the Jeep tends to sit higher than a normal car, having it lower may be closer to their eye level.

The center cap of my lug covers is made to remove for 4 wheel drives with lock-out hubs.. Very easy to remove.

12 bucks for the light and a plug. Yes I am cheep.
The center caps on my wheels are also made for vehicles with lock-out hubs and it is easy to remove the center.

The light is a standard pop in light, usually used on semis and such. I used a strip of thin galvanized strapping I had in my junk collection to hold the light in.

On the wheel.

Now if the wheel mount will get here.
