YMMV in any crash but still a good JK perfomance. Since it was a head-on collision with the JK, something was definitely humping the rear of the Honda that probably killed the driver
Brenda Rodriguez, of San Bernardino, was driving through the area around 8 a.m. and said a Goodwill truck with minor damage to its rear end was parked near the crash site.
Madden said investigators are trying to determine if the large truck was also involved in the crash.
Took a look at the other pictures linked in the article, Jeep looks like it's lifted and has aftermarket fender flares, and with the front driver wheel off the rear passenger suspension is flexed out pretty well. The other vehicle (Accord?) is pretty well unrecognizable, and has at a minimum had the top cut off, likely by firefighters to get the decedent out of the vehicle for EMT and coroner.
Agree the Jeep fared pretty well, looks like majority of the force was distributed forward of the passenger cabin, with the suspension taking a good amount of the hit (thus the spring just laying on the ground, FL wheel sitting on the ground, etc...)
In most any accident, a good rule of thumb is the larger (heavier) vehicle wins. 3400lb Accord vs. 4600+lb JKU, the Accord is going to take more damage. Equal force into unequal target and all that.
Also, keep in mind, ladder frame vs. unibody and the fact that he probably hit a lifted jeep, meaning the accord made impact with lots of high strength steel in the suspension and axles of the jeep...
