If you didn't catch the new Jeep ad; it's here: youtube.com/watch?v=wKn5K5V7tRo
If you did, what are your thoughts?
If I build Jeep, I need to ask myself why I built the Renegade. Do I have self-esteem issues?
The war footage seems odd given Jeep started by kicking Italy's a$$, and now Italy owns them. The tagline should be "Jeep: born to beat Italians, and the Renegade is their revenge."
I liked it. My wife liked it. Even my brother-in-law liked it.
Whoever their ad agency did a great job of saying the Jeep brand has been here for the "every man" in a humble way while at the same time bragging about itself. Very clever.
I really enjoyed it, first I liked the references to the war, i liked the movie references with "we ran from robots-terminator", "we ran with the dinosaurs- Jurassic park" etc.
I also enjoyed the part about roaming the earth and the far reaches of the planet and that being where it belongs.
I enjoyed the part about being with royalty but not being of royalty. The way I interpreted it was in a person sense, it's a dream car but it doesn't have to cost as much as many other dream cars, and we aren't afraid to get them dirty or put them to work.
Loved both commercials. But I'm confused, near the end of the 4x4ever commercial when that guy threw up a peace sign at the passing jeep, what was that? Is that something that jeep owners should do when passing one another? I'm from Virginia Beach and nobody does that here. Maybe we can start this new movement and call it like jeep wave or something. That would be cool.
Thumbs up for both commercials for me. Most cars and trucks have become such appliances these days; these commercials do a good job of saying that Jeeps haven't.
Hell, I drive a dinosaur, a '15 JKU, but at 83 I'm almost a dinosaur myself . I always wave at other Wranglers, old Cherokees, and even new Cherokee Trailhawks. We are members of the same fraternity, but we just joined it in different years. The first time I drove a Jeep was in the early 1950s when I was in the Canadian Army. - Ted
The TrailWeasel, excuse me TrailHawk isn't part of the Jeep Fraternity my friend. After having 3 JKs and then making the mistake of buying a TrailWeasel, I can tell you it isnt in the same class as a JK on or off road.
It's a poor excuse of a CUV with a dangerous transaxle that a 3 year old could have picked better shift points for.
Back on topic. Commercials we're great and I enjoyed the Jeep wave most of all.
I thought both commercials were great, but I am a softie for anything about a Jeep. I almost cried.
Seriously though.... these two are the best I have seen. I love the way they presented the old Jeeps and they also had a fair amount of newer Wrangler footage too ..... Well done!
I was like GUYS GUYS GUYS THE JEEP WAVE!!! And then people were like "wut...?" lol. Must be a Jeep thing. Maybe, just MAYBE that that somehow convinced all the soccer moms to wave?
I still think it is weird that they focused on the Jeep's military history when the Jeep was developed, as least partly, to combat that Italians that now own Jeep.
I'd feel better about that ad if Jeep was still an American car company.
Times change, and there is nothing wrong with honoring the past even if you aren't happy with the present way things are going. Give it a few more years and Jeep will be sold to someone else.
I know this is slightly off topic...by why won't people JeepWave. I know I should let it get to me but man it gets under my skin a little. :atomic:
