The 963XTR was a previous version. The 963PRO is the newest version. The 963PRO comes with two different mounting plates which allow for use with various sizes of spare tire/wheel, whereas the previous 3 versions did not have the additional mounting plate.

I have the 963PRO for carrying two bikes, although mostly it is just my mountain bike sometimes I have my wife and her bike also. I can highly recommend this carrier if you want a spare tire type carrier. I went that route because I do not have or want a trailer hitch on my present Wrangler.

Here is how it looks with the stock spare:

Depending on the geometry of you bike(s) you may need the additional bar that is attached between the seat post and the frame, but such is the case for the Yakima as well.

I tighten mine until I can't turn the knob anymore. Also, make sure the rubber pieces that help avoid tire rubbing/pressure are in place properly.

I have the Spare Me and have used it for over 10 years on various vehicles. Bought it originally for a 1996 Bronco. Then was happy to know it fit my 2006 Jeep Liberty and now my 2011 Wrangler. I had someone steel the knobs off it once but was able to buy replacements. It is a very good rack.
