"Ticking" Altitude, just curious?

Just wondering if there are any Altitudes (24L package) " ticking" out there in Jeep land? Just curious cause I got one.

Just a minor 3.6L trend. Don't bother going to the dealer until your CEL triggers and a valve goes through your hood, there just gonna ignore it and say its normal.

No I don't have one but I got weird luck and I'm ocd :-\ . Was just curious if any have turned up yet. I thought most Altitudes were later build dates so that's why I asked, but I may be wrong on that. I think I'm 6/12 but I have forgotten.. (shaking head).

No Altitude here but my 2012 Rubicon Unlimited had a build date of 05/12/12 and it's fine. 5300 miles on it and counting.

The fact that it is an Altitude model has nothing to do with anything.

Tom, it has everything to do with it! For each trim model there's a different 3.6L! I got Bright Silver Metallic because it came with a factory performance cold air intake. If I'd gone with Crush, it would've come with a factory performance exhaust instead. The Flame Red ones come with forged pistons.

I thought that too but in reading all the posts I have not seen one complaining of the problem. So in an effort to isolate the issue or maybe rule out different models I made this thread. My initial thought was may be due to the later build dates on the Altitudes they were less or not affected. The Altitudes were not released until April /May ish 2012. But we have already seen later build dates with the issue in other trims. So just waiting for a couple Altitudes to pop up here with the issue then we will know for sure that yet another trim level is affected.

I'm pretty sure the engine gets installed before the stickers are put on that tell us what special edition it is. The engine doesn't know or care what the sticker says, it only knows that it is a 3.6 built before the new heads were available and it will likely one day develop a normal abnormal noise that doesn't become truly abnormal until the check engine light comes on notifying the servicing dealer that something abnormal has occured in your otherwise normal engine.

I thought too there was a issue on where the motor was built. Where some had issues from some plants and others did not. I guess that theory is over by now too. Oh well, I'm still fishing.........

I'm curious as to whether anyone still have their window stickers. I have mine and it says the engine was built in America. 5300+ miles and all is well. Will it develop issues? Time will tell.

All of the Wrangler engines are built in the same plant. This might be why this problem is more prevalent in the Wrangler than it is in the other platforms.

That's like asking if your cop car will ever have optispark issues. It's only a matter of time. The real question is will it happen before or after the warranty runs out.

That's exactly what I said, I just used less words.

I know, but using fewer words in this case didn't seem to work. People have a natural tendency to believe longer and more drawn out explanations.

Don't forget that these altitudes were built in May 2012 and the engines could have been inspected for bad valves or heads before they put them in. (Since Jeep knew about it at this time)

I knew I'd find one person to agree. That was my thought. I got a June build.

We will definately see if they fixed it soon. Theres enough May,June, and July builds out there right now.
I have a Rubicon with a July 2012 build and I have a feeling I might have the new head design on mine.

"Stickers" really? It's a little more than that..... RadarRed leather stiching on the beautiful black leather seats, mopar gas cover (metal), blacked out wheels, special Berber floor mats, blacked out Jeep badges. There, as I wipe my forehead off, I feel better now:-D. And, Oh yeah..that special hood decal (sticker, as you call it) that I might add is quite functional in reducing glare of that fat ass paint job!

Still no ticking time bomb Altitudes really?

Stickers and trim, so "stickers" is pretty accurate. While I do like the the Altitude a lot, it's still trim and the 3.6L isn't partial, they will tick whether they're in a Charger, Grand Caravan, or a Wrangler.

Wow, three days to come up with that one? Somebody must be losing sleep over the price they paid for their "decal" package. You can call it what you want, it doesn't change anything. The engine doesn't care about the seats, wheels, floor mats, fuel door or anything else either. I doubt there are any Altitudes out there with enough miles on them to say they do or do not have the problem. Time will tell.

I doubt he's losing sleep over what he paid for his Altitude. He knew prior to purchasing it what it was going to cost, and he clearly liked it enough to buy it. So what if it's a trim package? I've seen a few of them and I find them to be pretty nice looking vehicles. What are larger tires and a 4" lift if you never take your Jeep offroad? TRIM.

Seems his biggest concern is whether his engine is going to start ticking. That being said, if he was that worried about it, he shouldn't have bought his Jeep, so if he's losing sleep, it's his own fault. No sympathy here.
