Tire Feathering

I just bought a 2008 Sahara that has fairly new tires, I have noticed the front tires are what I would call feathered on the outside edge ( the edge just isnt smooth, not what I would consider cupped) is this normal? I plan to rotate them soon, but do I need a front end alignment as well or is this kind of wear normal on front tires from turning and such?

I should mention the tires are Bridgestone Dueler ATs

Toe problem. Have your wheel alignment checked.

Edit: Also, upon thinking about this a bit more, previous owner may have cornered or drove winding roads a bit aggressively. Tire rotation would sort that eventually.

I'd still have a wheel alignment check, as it's used.

they didnt give me a before print out, only one from after showing that it was within spec. I am just curious if now that it is aligned, will the feathering on the tires correct itself or will they always wear funny now since they had already started to feather before I had the alignment done?

It will not get worse. Rotate more often for the next 2-3 cycles (every 2500-3000) miles.
Fronts wear different than back. If the spare wasn't involved leave it out.
Tires don't typically " cure" but front/rear wear may mitigate coupled with the alignment.

Leave them there for this iteration and then see how they feel. No change or little better then put spare in the mix. Most alignments come with a warranty period.bget it rechecked before next rotation.
For what its worth, my jk is new I have about 3k on it and tires are not smooth with hand sweeps front/back. Had alignment checked and it was invspec except for camber which we don't have an adjustment for anyway.
We have aggressive tires and primitive suspensios so to a degree is what it is.
If its riding OK. No worries.

drives and rides fine. The the rear tires have been on the front since the alignment ( about 1000 miles ago) and there is no sign of feathering on them as of yet. So hopefully it's improved if not fixed.

The term for that type of wear varies with who you are talking to. I'm a technician by trade and use the feathering edge term.☺ Regular rotations and alignments (toe adj) are pretty inexpensive.

On occasion I will cross rotate the fronts to the rears so the wear faces the road, minimize noise and even out the wear.

I have been and plan to use the rearward cross 5 tire rotation. So the fronts and up in the opposite side rear. Hopefully this will help.

Mainly just worried about tire longevity. Want them to last as long as possible. I'll just rotate them frequently and keep the tire pressure up and hope for the best lol
Just shoot for consistently correct. Too High wear in the middle, too low and raise temperature risking catastrophic failure as well as loss of fuel economy. Wear longevity, you'll be fine based on where you are at now.
Check balance and allignment when/if they start to misbehave.
