you can fit up to 35" tires on the stock rims, but you will need proper wheel back-spacing or wheel spacers AND at least a 2.5 inch suspension lift, depending on your offroad use. Show rooms always esthetically ramp the Jeep up for sales purposes.

Is the number wrong? Stock tires are 255/75/17 which are 32.1.
275/55/17 are only 28.9". I haven't seen these on Jeeps before
If we are talking about stock 255/75/17 then I would say aggressive tires always look bigger then the GY SRA's because of the wider lugs and the more square stance
285/70/17 are the largest you can put on without any mods and there may be a very slight rub in full turn

Our stock tyres are 245/75 17 Goodyear Wrangler AT's, which equals bout 31 1/2 inch. I have seen some Rubi's in the showroom with the Goodyear Wrangler MT (I think from memory) and they were a much chunkier tyre
