Tire stupid, what fits????

I want to continue to use my stock 18 inch polished rims but I want to get a better, more aggresive tire that is a little larger (about 1 inch). I have a teraflex leveling kit to throw on but I want to get the tires ordered now. I found this awesome calculator that even tells you how far off your speedo will be. http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html I was looking at maybe 265/70 R18 instead of the stock 255/70 R18. What is the best size that won't blow off my rim if I air down for the beach?

The 265s should be fine. What can do is go to the tire manufacture’s website and look up the tire you want. Most have a sheet to tell you what rim width is recommended. You will run into a rubbing problem if you do not have wheel spacers. Even though you have a slight lift you may still rub when you turn the wheel to the full right or left.

Many here are going to recommend selling your 18" wheels and moving to smaller wheel before going bigger with your tires. Tires weigh less, cost less and will affect your MPG less by going with a bigger set on smaller wheel.s

I've looked at combos but I like to be different and really want to use my rims. I'm just looking for the most effective size I can safely put on my Jeep that is just a hair bigger.

I just do the combo thing to mess with ESP.

Check out the thread below. It's designed to help people who want bigger tires with no lift, but much of the stuff in there would apply to your situation (have a lift but not yet installed) as well.

Largest tire on stock JK? Here's your answer!
