tires? AT/MT?

Hey I'm new to here and just looking at what is the best option for tires. Have a 2010 JKU and gunna be putting a AEV 2.5 inch lift on and looking at some Mickey Thompson's and Dick Cepek 33's for sure and around a 305/60 or so... any advice would help

depends on your actual need an location.

i do pretty good on all terrains in georgia clay. i would do better on muds but its my DD so i went with all terrains.

mines a DD too, but a lot of different places. live in the midwest (il/wis) but go to school out west, spend a lot of time in utah and idaho

Unless you're gonna dedicate your Jeep to off-roading, go AT. Better to replace after 50K miles than 25K. Quieter on the highway. Lighter. Etc...

mikeys are great. but go for what ever is cheapest and lightest. look at tire weights.

i paid 10 dollars more per tire for coopers because they were 20lbs a piece lighter than the falkens. rotational weight will kill mileage

I have these! 12.5x20 Only 1500 miles on the clock so far. So far a great tire. Depends on what you are going for. At hwy speed they have low noise. For me I was sold by the looks.

BFG AT's are great tires for everything, except mud. I got 80K on a set once.

For AT I go back to my same recommendations for everyone: Goodyear Duratrac, Kelly Safari TSR and/or Fierce Attitude. All three are made by Goodyear and are a more agressive AT tire. Falken Wildpeaks perform well offroad too and are less aggressive than the latter..

But the falkens are heavy. Cooper atom 49lbs each. Fallen wild peak 61 lbs each

But those 25K are fun miles though As others have mentioned, get a set of ATs if your looking for better mpg and DD attributes. Go with MTs if your looking for a real jeep tire.

Oh don't ask me about tires really. I'm like a female with a credit card in a shoe store when it comes to em.

Since you mentioned the Dunlop "Attitudes"- I found 35 X 12.5 X17s for $212! ATTITUDE M/T - OnlineTires.com
They also have the Toyo Open Country MTs for $292.
Their warehouse is in Cerritos CA- for any locals. If you can pick them up you'll save a ton of $$$.
I hate the gimmicky barbed wire on the Dunlops but for the price I think I'll have to learn to like 'em. Maybe I'll go with a Pamela Anderson theme.....
If anyone has direct experiece with the Attitudes and can share I'd appreciate it. I've only found a few reviews- have you run them Dan?

So nevermind on the Dunlops. I can't find them in stock except for one place- and I think he may have the old 6 plys. Looks like I'll be getting the Toyos.

everyone is running the duratrac's. do you know how they do in snow? that's a big thing for me. and btw how do you like your teraflex lift?

I have the Hankook Dynapro RF10s on my 4Runner- good and grippy- quiet too. I have about 10,000 miles on them so far...still quiet. I have taken them all over Colorado and to some really sandy trails in Moab. On Moab rock, anything grips though steep sandy trails are a different story. I like them a lot.

I like the DuraTrac tread but I hear of more balancing issues on GY than any other tire. I have a buddy at a GY plant and he laughs every time I tell him this. Says they are aware but have not been able to or focus on improving that aspect yet. I guess it does not cause them much grief- financially.

Toyos balance really well, from what the guys at DT and online reading tell me. I am running the BFG KM2 on my Jeep- good offroad and pretty quiet too. I'd probably use the KM2s all-around on the Jeep. When my 4R needs shoes, I'll go Toyo Open Country- not sure MT or AT since I take that offroad as well. They are heavier but the 4R has a V8. Since we take long trips in the 4R, I'll probably go AT.

The DuraTracs are quite possibly the best tires I've ever had in the snow, other than Bilzzaks. No, I'm not kidding.

Others may disagree, but as long as I live in WI I won't have another tire on my rig. JMO.

I just wen through the pain of selecting a tire. Just about everyone spends much more time on the road than off the road. Still, I picked a real Jeep tire after lots of back and forth, searching and shopping. I went with 35x12.5x17 KM2's. Great reviews for on and off-road performance. If I was going to get an AT I would have picked the Duratrac. Significantly lighter that other and reportedly long lasting. No matter what you pick you are making a compromise. Do you want looks? Tread life? Gas mileage? Off-road performance? Better handling in snow? Do you drive in wet conditions? Rocks? Is budget your biggest concern?
It drove me nuts. Pick a tire that meets your needs.
