I just collected my new Rubi today and over here they come with the 17" Goodyear Silent Armor AT's that the Saharas have. Its the trade for the butt ugly Euro bumpers we have to put up with!
My Willy's had those KM Muds and they were off in like a week. Horrible, noisy, and scary in the rain. Sahara tires were so nice I kept them when I traded for my 4 door Sport. Good in every way. Well maybe not in deep mud.....
I have a rubicon and while I am on road 99% of the time and I may replace them with an A/T when the stock M/Ts wear out I am glad the rubicon came with M/Ts. The rubicon is a truly capable off road machine right off of the showroom floor and that requires some compromise. When you start to compromise what a Wrangler is you get on a slippery slope to a crossover.
If you don't want that, that's why they sell Sports and Saharas.

I think the KMs are great tires, especially with the terrain here in ENC. I have absolutely no issues in the rain or on sand. Lots of beaches around here too. I might think differently if I lived in different terrain.
I also think the MT's are an excellent stock tire for the Rubicon. They do great for everyday driving and wear great if maintained. You want have problems selling or trading a new set of Rubicon takeoffs.
I have a 2016 JKRHR with the MTs. All of my driving is on paved roads, mostly highway and turnpike. We are planning on a Jeep Jamboree in Ouray, Colorado. Which tire is better suited for Colorado trail driving? The MT or an AT?
Do yourself a favor if you have KM's, get them siped. The tire will run cooler, last longer, are much better in the rain and are quieter. I did this to mine and when I took them off at 30K they still have 50% of the tread left.
The Rubicon is Jeep's version of a turnkey special, and mud terrains are part of that package. If the mud terrains bother you, you can always swap them out yourself or purchase a Wrangler that more suits your requirements.
Thank your lucky stars that you didn't get the crap that comes on the JK. I tried to wear them out but I couldn't wait that long. Driving in the rain was dangerous. I went with the Hankook D-Pro,,,, what a great all around tire
TO LOUD?!?!?!?!?!? and lousy in the rain? Heaven forbid y'all hade to drive an older jeep with a set of mud grips on them. What would you do? For a mud grip they are extremely quite and handel great in the rain.
Lately when I read these kind of things on this forum I just imagine its one of the hundreds of guys who had imports years ago and moved over to jeep because its the new cool kid ride these days.
Why would you buy the most offroad capable model offered and then bitch about it having the most aggressive tire offered on it?
Reading the forum lately makes me believe that some people would blow their brains out if they had to drive around for a week in jeeps like mine or some of the other guys that have been around for years.

I avoid the tar like the plague--couldn't imagine a Rubicon without anything but an aggressive tire. If I wanted a street vehicle I would have bought one. To me it's like buying a corvette to do the rubicon trail
I love my KM's that come on my Hard Rock, but they stunk in the snow and ice this winter (mild winter in W.PA) so I bought 5 Sport Stock tires/ Rims with Goodyears on them. They had 3000 miles on them and they worked great for winter. Put the MT back on 2 months ago and LOVE the hum of the larger aggressive tires.
Reminds me of my neighbor as a kid growing up in the 70's. He had a 74 Blazer with 37" on it. To me it was a monster truck. He would drive down the street with the top off and all you would hear was the band Styx and the hum of the tires! Super Cool!!! I WANTED TO BE THAT COOL!
:iamhappy:
I hate the tires that come with the new Corvettes. Yeah they are great on the road but they totally suck off-road. If I air them down I will dent my rims and the lack of traction is just down right scary especially on rocky surfaces.
I agree. GM really dropped the ball on what many consider thier flagship vehicle. Spend that kind of money to have to turn around and replace wheels and tires immediately. I won't even go into the cost and issues associated with doing a lift or lockers.
I wish my jeep cornered like my corolla, maybe if I lowered it.
I drove my km muds through their life. Had em slide out the day I picked it up in the rain on a 25mph exit ramp. My own fault. Never had a problem after. They certainly aren't life threatening
I feel this was a question that was asked before the new jk platform was out, Mopar answered w the km.
They don't have a long wear life so won't be long before your getting something else.
Instead of wishing for the option to "dumb down" the Rubicon with the less capable tires, it might be more acceptable to wish for the ability to get some of the Rubicon options on a sport. I would have gone that route if I could have got the axle, gears and lockers on a Sport... with the MTs.
