Tires on stock rims

Alright so I know people have asked about lifts and upgraded rims and tires already an I've read everything I can find but I haven't seen an answer to my specific question yet. If its there I apologize but I'm gonna ask anyways.

I want to buy the 295/70/17 Nitto Trail Grapplers for my 2010 JKU. I figure they are around 33X11.5. Now from what I can tell these will fit under the well but does anyone run this size on the stock rims? I want to know if there is rubbing with the stock rims. As I don't plan on doing any rock crawling this is as big as I'm gonna go. Since I can fit this tire on the stock 17X7.5 rim I see no reason to upgrade rims. I do plan on throwing a 2.5" suspension lift eventually but I wanted to know if I could fit these tires without rubbing prior to the lift or if I had to do the lift first. Also I rather not use spacers. Thanks in advance for the advice.

The guy at my local tire shop said the stock tires were already a tight squeeze.

265/70/17 is the best bet....no rubbing in stock rims of 17 and no lift...

Pretty sure the bs on your stock wheels is too much for that wide a tire.

Hmm very disheartening. I was hoping I wouldn't have to get spacers. Well I guess it's $200 to spacers or put aside $200 and start saving for some rims with 4.5" backspacing.

Correct; it will rub hard parts and hit your rear fenders at full-stuff.
A 275 should fit.

Plus, the tire manufacturers give a wheel size range for their products; I'd find it hard to believe that Nitto says that tire would be recommended on a 7.5" wheel...

Lol.

Fair enough. Does anyone have any pictures of 265/70/17 on a wrangler? I hate to go shorter than my 255/75/17 an I'd be losing an inch but I really like the Nitto Trail Grapplers and the price works too. I wish they had more than 4 sizes.

According to 1010TIRES.COM® — Tires and Wheels Absolute Authority. the 255/75's measure 32.05", while the 265/70's measure 31.60".

75% of 255mm is 191.25mm while 70% of 265mm is 185.5mm. So yes, he would be loosing about a 1/2" in diameter, not really enough to notice. But the op also needs to keep in mind that his current tires may not (probably don't) measure up to the 32" they claim, nor will his new ones. My 33's measure in right at 32"....

That size should work without any other mods.

Here's a nice tire:
WRANGLER MT/R W/KEVLAR

I used to run them on my Jeep in a 285/75-16 on wheels with 4.5" of backspacing:

I would bet so - since it looks like you have 255/75/17's on there now - the difference in size between the two is below - it's minimal at most... But much more aggressive I would say...

I am waiting to see if Nitto comes out with the Trail Grappler in December in the 255 / 75 / 17 - because I like the look of that tire and I know it will fit with no worries. Besides that, might make a good present - LOL...

It's gonna be close... Should fit but I bet you rub in front. I just checked the clearance on our stock Rubi, and there's about 1.75" between the tire and anything it would rub, front and rear..... Hope this helps.

Inferno. Will you marry me? I want a wife that loves Jeeps. My current wife just accepts that I have one. Plus a woman sitting on the hood of a wrangler looks so much better than any accessory I have seen yet.

LOL! I'm gonna have to change my avatar back to something else... That isn't me, it's some random girl with Ageless Stranger's face photoshopped in... It was a joke!

If I married you we'd have to live in Utah and even then I'm pretty sure it's not legal... My husband might object to having to share me... Give your wife some time, she just might grow to love your Jeep as much as you do...

There's somebody on here running that size without any problems; I can't remember who.

But different tires measure differently. The same size tire by Goodyear could be an inch wider than a BFG....

Yeah I'll work in her. One of the biggest obstacles is she doesn't enjoy having it opened up and cruising around. That's what gets most people but she couldn't care less. Oh well. Her seat can hold the cooler I guess.

hi, what do you mean..."will rub front & rear"....it will rub if I turn(the wheels) fully to the right and if I turn(the wheels) fully to the left? You are only talking about the front tires not the rear one...right?

I checked the front and rear tires on the inside of the wheel wells to see how much clearance there is with my 255/75's... I can't tell you if anything larger than that will rub anywhere, but if you go too wide then the fronts will rub when you turn and the rears will rub over bumps.

295 will rub but you can put 285/70/17 on (a lot cheaper then 295's too) and there may be a very slight rub when you turn real hard but that is pulling on the wheel and how often do you really turn your wheel that hard. 275 will fit but are more expensive because there just not that many made of course 265/70/17 are cheaper then all of them around that size. I went with the 285's and love them
