TJ to JK Same jeep lifestyle??

Good day everyone,
Avid Jeeper here, I've owned a YJ for 5 years. Sold the YJ bought a TJ been driving it for about 3 years daily driver. installed lifts/tires the whole shabang. Got married last year, with a little one on the way. I was considering going to the 4 door JK. Does the new JKs give you the same feel with more room? Any advise would help. I enjoy the jeeps and will probably never own anything else.

Trying to get the wife to let me keep the TJ :P .

Not really the same feel. The JK has a lot more comfort that the wife will like. Some older Jeepers don't like change so it will feel different at first but the JK is just a capable on the trail and that's what matters. All new models strive to make the next model better, some don't see it that way but that is the goal and I think the JK model is a great Jeep. The 4 door actually has some good advantages over the 2 dr but it also has it's disadvantages like turning radius, tight trails and when you break over the top of a hill. Other then that it will work just as good as you have experienced in the past or better.

I had a TJ and a sport car (370z). I loved them both but no room for family. My wife and I decided to try and have a baby, I sold my Z and bought my JKUR and have not looked back. I later sold the TJ and used that money to mod the JK, again I have not looked back. I love my JK, the ride, and I can still take the doors and top off.

Both of these +1.

This pretty much sums it up man. The 4 door is wifey approved for the family and can still crawl with the best of them. Just look up "project-jk" on YouTube and go with a 2011 or newer for the spiffy interior

I have a two door. If I needed a four door I would have got one but my back seat hasnt been installed in months. Just the wife and I. I traded her cooper S for a C250 a few months ago as carrying friends was a burden.

To me a "Jeep" is a two door. That being said, the four door is every bit of a Jeep as the two door. Four door has more room but its down side over the two door is the length in tight trails and obstacles in the trail or tops of climbs where breakover becomes an issue. Plus side is the four door as you would guess is more stable on hills. You will be happy with a JK its night and day over a TJ as I looked for an LJ rubi before I bought my sport.

I have owned a 1974 Cj5, a 2003 TJ and now a 2013 Rubicon JK. I have really enjoyed all of my Jeeps, but the JKs superior ride, handling and technology is just several levels above the older models!
I have never owned a 4 DR, but I have road tested one and I'm sure that you will be very happy with it's overall performance!

I had a '00 TJ for the last two years... Loved it. BUT my 6yo is getting bigger (oh how they grow) and after two adults in the front, a kid in the back, cooler, snacks bag, tool bag, etc... That's just a day run. Camping? Ya need to be crafty to get the tents and all that in a 2dr TJ. There isn't much room left. So 4 days ago I bought my '08 JKU and I am already happy! I love the extra room, the basic upgrades and definitely the space. Turning radius and tops of climbs may be a con but this is my daily driver so no big loss. Once the boy is older/has his own ride, I will go 2dr Rubi for me and the lady! Best if luck....

I have 3 sons (6, 10, and 11) and I use my motorcycle cargo trailer for camping. I love my jeep, but the unlimited does increase the passenger capacity! We also have a grand caravan so if the wife must come...lol

To me it's the same feel, but even better because of the ride improvements, as well as additional room. In my case the feel is about putting the top down, taking the doors off and enjoying the ride whether is be back roads, the highway or a trail. I can do all those things in my JK as well or in some cases better than my TJ.

The ride is better, it isn't as loud, more comforts and the top and doors still come off! I have owned all the same generations as you. Maybe it is as I get older I enjoy the upgrades as my needs have changed. I sometimes get the feelings from the people that still drive a YJ and TJ that a JK isn't accepted yet. Those people obviously have driven one. I am a family of 3 with a large dog. We could do a 2 door, but the 4 door makes life easier for us.
