TL Discount and question-May affect you.

Got my 2012 Jeep after joining TL and got a control number 30 days ago.
Went to dealership Saturday to pick up Jeep.
Dealer asked for my TL letter and control number and drivers license and insurance.
He made copies and came back with 2% below invoice in writing.
Paid for the full amount with trade in and the rest I wrote a check.
Tuesday check cleared and happy as can be.
Today get a call and Dealer says he needs a copy of my pay stub and my marriage license(both on title) to provide to Chrysler affiliate rewards program to get reimbursed his 2%.

I said I will not provide that information to him as I already got the control number and is under my name and my driver's license is proof.

He stated Chrysler says somebody could have stole my information and control number and purchased the vehicle and also stated if I did not provide this information he could not register my Jeep under Chrysler Warranty.
Is he correct or can I fill out the warranty card provided with my Jeep and be covered?
I don't have to have it serviced at his dealership but will other dealers still honor the 2 year oil change?

Something does not make sense but then again I am in Canada. If you paid in full (not a lease) there is no reason they would need a copy of your pay stub and no way would they need a copy of your marriage license. What are they trying to do, steal your identity?

I have not used the TL discount but something does not sound right. Maybe make a call to JEEP and ask them what is going on.

In the US acceptable forms of identification usually include a state issued driver's license, social security card, medicare card, military ID, passport and even a marriage license, but I can't ever remember anyone asking for my marriage license for identification.

Have you tried providing any of these other forms of identification?

Since you've already paid, I can't understand why they would require a pay stub. I would offer some other form of identification you're comfortable with providing and see if they will accept it. If they won't accept it, you can always escalate the issue to the next level and see if you can find someone up the chain of command that is more reasonable.

This is the real weird part... It was my understanding that chrysler did that automatically once the vehicle was registered otherwise if you drove off the lot and something went wrong, and the dealer didn't register it you would be screwed....
I would not give the dealer anything till I talk to chrysler direct and see what they say, the vehicle is registered so tas far as the state is concerned you are who you say you are, not to mention the check from the bank would have been declined if you weren't who you say you are...

The people at the customer service # are really helpful and should have no issue answering this...

It all sounds fishy. You have the Jeep already, why is he calling you after the fact. They have their money, you have your ride. Talk to the highest up person you can reach and go for blood.

Big time fishy...

Here's why, first your control number was registered to you at your address. Your license proves that.
Second, they will and have to NVDR the Wrangler, so Chrysler will know you are the owner and your warranty is good. NVDR is New Vehicle Delivery Report. The dealership has to do it. Plus it is another unit toward their monthly objective, so I'd tell them to screw off. PM me your VIN and I can see if they already reported it sold. Once they report it sold, the warranty starts and your name should be on as owner.

^^Seriously, this is why I LOVE having this guy around. Perfect straight up answer.

I can't imagine what we're all going to do if Pat decides he's done with being a Jeep dealer and pursues that career in basket weaving or whatever.

I did not disclose that my wife was going to be on the title until we went to the finance guy and he stated sure no problem.
Dealer said that Chrysler saw my wife name on the title and of course we have the same last name and wanted our marriage certificate to prove we were married before Chrysler would give the dealer his payment.
Dealer even made the comment you want me to get my money from Chrysler as you got the discount.

I also read the Chrysler affiliate FAQ and it did say something about paystub and marriage license for verification but to get my control number I answered the questions asked by the Chrysler rep and she gave me the number and said it was good for up to 2 vehicles a year spouse included

I put my wife on the title the day I signed the deal and picked up my Jeep on August 4th. Same deal as you, trade + check for balance. No such request from my dealer. They are confused or......

Call the Chrysler Affiliate Rewards program help line at 1-888-444-4321. They guarantee and enforce the deal, You'll get the truth from them.

I think the pay stub is if you need to prove you qualify for the Rewards program due to employment with an eligible company.

You only needed your Tread Lightly letter to prove eligibility.

Marriage license probably needed only if you qualify because of spouses employment.

I added my wife to the title after TL deal was finalized and there was no issue as far as I know. I never got a call from the dealer and that was over a month ago.

I think the dealer is confused asking for a pay stub as I provided the TL letter as proof of eligibility.
Maybe he thought I worked for Chrysler.
He did say I was the first to use the TL but he has been at the dealership for 20 years and you think he would have went to Chrysler school.
He keeps calling my phone from different numbers and tells me my jeep breaks down it will not be covered.
I will contact the hot line tomorrow and let you know the outcome

Give Pat your VIN as he can help you. He will tell you if your warranty is active and applies to you solely. PM him the VIN before speaking anymore to your "dealer".

Before my salesman knew my affiliate was TL, he also asked for a paystub. Once I got there and gave him my TL letter, he said, "ok cool, I didn't know they were a part of the affiliates program," took it to the finance/closing guy, and everything was great (realized once I got home though that I don't think I got the letter back, doh).

As long as you are on the title and the control number is in your name you do not have to show them proof of anything. You could have titled it in your wifes name alone, had a control number in your name alone, then they might ask for a marriage license.

The fact is, you are on the title, you have the control number in your name. There should be no questions asked.

Oooh, that means you REALLY get to unload on the guy. I'd say a visit to the dealership and a conversation with his boss is in order!

Just a reminder if you use the TL discount at a dealer that has not done a TL discount before make sure you explain to him that you do not work for TL or Chrysler and your TL membership letter with a control number authorizes you to get 1% under factory invoice.
My dealer after 5 days called me back and insisted that I show proof with a pay stub that I worked for TL so he could get his 3% back from Chrysler.
I went back to his office and he showed me the form with requirements that said a pay stub is needed. About the 4th paragraph down it also said the TL membership letter could be used to very eligibility.

Chrysler's Affiliate Rewards site actually *does* say that they will ask for a marriage license if you are the spouse of the "eligible employee." I don't think they were doing anything out of the ordinary or sketchy really. Just something they should have asked you for before if your wife is not the eligible employee...
From the Chrysler Affiliate Rewards website:

Q. What do I need to provide to the dealer to receive the Preferred Price? A. Your unique Control Number (generated through this website, or by calling [888] 444-4321) and proof of eligibility, such as your company photo ID badge, current and original pay stub, copy of pension check, W-2 form, marriage license or similar documentation.

I researched this as I am the spouse of the eligible employee. I was prepared to show them our marriage license if necessary but I decided to just register it in my husband's name since it will be *his* baby, lol.

This isn't the first time a dealer has been confused by the TL program. Most Affiliate Rewards clients are employees that get a discount through their employer and that is how the dealer tries to make the TL program work. It isn't for employees, it's for members. There is no need to show a pay stub to prove you are a member of TL.

TL *is* part of Chrysler's Affiliate Rewards program so if the membership is under the husband's name and the wife is the one getting titled on the vehicle, I think it is ok for them to ask for the marriage license to prove that *she* is eligible. I am clearly in the minority here thinking that they are NOT doing something weird asking for the marriage license, lol. I agree they should not be asking for the paystub, just the control number and the letter that TL provides is all that the actual member needs. When the spouse is using the membership, I think it's ok for them to ask for proof of being a spouse.
