Cool To build a 2014 JKURX or a 2015 JKURX, that is the question.

Ok, so I was in the process of building/ordering my new JKURX and I was notified that the "build out" date was coming soon and that I need to make up my mind. The salesman informed me that the "build out" date is 21 Apr for the Wrangler's and if I order after that ill have to order a 2015.
I've been told the JKURX will be available in 2015 but I'm wondering if anyone knows any changes that may come with a 2015. (I've seen and read all the internet talk of diesel, IFS etc but as far as I know that is all rumor mill at this point). Any updates/changes on the 2015?
He also told me I can build and order a 2015 today but I won't be able to take delivery of it until November of this year, I'm leaning towards this option being that I'm so close to the cut-off as it is.

Attached is the document he sent me with dates in case anyone is interested.

Cheers!
Chad

The only substantiated stuff I read is that the redesign was originally for 2016 and got pushed back to 2018.

The US diesel rumors have floated around forever. Jeep is selling every Wrangler it makes, and can't get enough VM diesels for the Ram pickup and Cherokee. Based on this, I'd say the Wrangler is not getting that engine anytime soon.

I do understand your situation... I was ready to buy in 2011 and heard the Pentastar was coming, so I waited. The head issues cropped up and spooked me until 2013. Personally, I'm not confident Fiat isn't going to totally screw up the next gen Wrangler.

Why would you wait for something you want? The most likely outcome is that the 2015 will be the exact same as the 2014, but you will have waited almost a year to get it, or missed it all together. Also, waiting for the first real change is nuts, as you surely don't want the first one off the assembly line. If anything get the newest version of the current design, that way you know all the bugs have been worked out.

I would wait because I'm not in a hurry to get one or "need" one. I just wanted to see if anyone had heard of any changes to the 2014 for the 2015 model, as stated before in the op.
I know all about getting the "newest version" or first off the line, my 97 TJ had so many issues and recalls it was ridiculous but I made it through them all. I didn't expect the 2015 to be a total transformation such as the YJ-TJ or TJ-JK, just wondering about any subtle changes or upgrades.
Due to me ordering it either way, I'm waiting, 2014 would arrive in June and 2015 in Nov.

IFS just ain't gonna happen for 2015.

There might be some minor trim changes (like the front directional going from yellow to white in '14), most probably some new colors, and a new "special edition" or two. I would not expect anything really major like your rumors are saying. IMHO, the current Wrangler design is simply "coasting thru" until the Fiat-based redesign comes out in 2018 (or later). Chrysler isn't going to invest in any major changes for it at this stage.

There weren't any new issues between the '13 and '14. So, I doubt there will be any between the '14 and '15.

In life you're not guaranteed tomorrow. Live life today, and if you really love some change in the wrangler over the next year or two - go ahead and trade in your 14. Enjoy today!

Thanks, I ordered the 2015, guess we'll see.

Waiting is not an option, it's a requirement, I'm waiting either way. Just one is a little longer of a wait.
Cheers

I saw some photos from the Geneva auto show this week. It looks like they've redesigned the front bumper. The fogs are out towards the ends. The ends turn up to meet the fenders and the whole thing looks deeper. I didn't like it. Other than that, I didn't notice any exterior changes.

Sounds like the European OEM bumper. Could that be what you saw?

I agree. I don't care for that bumper at all.

Was that on a Rubicon X? I know they have different bumpers than the other models and I ordered a X.
Thanks for the info, appreciate it.

X2.

Almost every vehicle manufacturer, when rolling out major changes, has issues to deal with the first year or two of the changes.

I doubt anything will change, if it does it'll be so minor, that you would have missed out on some time...and may regret it. Just my 2 cents.

Yes, I have to wait for my jeep regardless so the 2015 it is.

Mods will come from here, JK/JK Unlimited Bumpers, Fenders & Suspensions (Lift Kits)

I plan to do a fully mod'd MC Jeep, I really like their stuff.
Lift
Bumpers
Body armor
Warn winch

For starters.

It'll be a while since delivery isn't until Oct or Nov 2014, but it'll be the first JKURX in Germany!
Ill post pics of the build once it all begins, also the long wait allows me to plan and acquire upgrades.
Cheers!

In case you're curious, here is an European 10A, with that bumper. Regardless of what bumper the various models and editions have here in the USA, all the European destined Wranglers seem to get this same bumper.

Supposedly the red leather interior from the 10A may be available for the X in 2015

One thing I can guarantee is that the price will continue to rise. My wife ordered her Polar in Nov and took delivery in Dec. The price went up right about $350 on her package, but she was price protected. After seeing her's I wanted one, but between our horrible weather, and my indecisiveness (body color, hard top color, axle, package), I did not place my order until late Feb. The prices went up another $200 that next Wed. Again, I was price protected, but still, the prices have gone up somewhat steadily during this model year. I would heartily recommend, that unless you cannot find a color you really love (in my case I was debating between 4), that you order yours as soon as possible, for many reasons, including money savings. If you have a trade-in it will continue to lose value as well, in all likelyhood.

Interesting, I'll see if that option is available when the specs drop for the order.

Yes, the price will definitely go up, no doubt about that.

Like I've said, I have to wait regardless, so I think I'll just wait a few extra months for the 15'.

Any idea where this info came from or how accurate it is? I would be swayed into doing a Rubicon X if I could get the red leather...

Mine is a US order, but it will be shipped overseas. Also, I am ordering a 2015 so that's why it's Nov. I think the quoted wait time for a 2014 build currently is 6-8 weeks, that's what I was told at least.

Couple quick questions. If you already ordered a 2015, how do you know what options you're getting already? Don't you have to build it on the Jeep Website first so you know if any upgrades or changes have been added to the new 15's or did you just order a base Rubi X?

Well, the way it was explained is: I ordered a 2015 but used the 2014 specs. He places the order and holds my spot on line. When the 2015 specs drop, they call me, I come down and we go over the build sheet again and see what has changed and what hasn't and change my order accordingly. They submit the final order and I'm one of the first in production for 2015. I don't use the jeep website, I used their ordering system. So, I guess I should say I jumped in line for a 2015 order...

Not a bad idea jumping ahead of the crowd. According to the sheet on the first post the earliest shipping for US is 9/04 which works out great since all of august I will be in Europe. I am tempted to put my order for the 14 right now but if the 15 comes out with even the slightest added features I know I will be kicking myself in the a$$ later.
