To buy a jeep or not to buy a jeep?

Hello guys new I'm new to the forum and as the title says I'm looking at possibly buying a jeep wrangler rubi unlimited. I currently have a 2012 f150 super crew FX4 with the ecoboost engine. I love the truck but, 1 I hate the ford dealership here they are a bunch of a**holes, and have the worst customer service I've ever seen. 2 I just don't need that big of a truck anymore.

So that being said I have always liked jeeps especially the rubicons, and just want to know if there are any issues that I need to know about before possibly buying one. I really want to make an informative decision, because we don't have a Jeep dealer here on Maui so I have to go to honolulu to buy, which means I have to ship my truck to the other island and vice versa with the new jeep, which = about another $1,000.00 extra. Please let me know of anything or how you like your jeep

Thank you

Jeeps are more than a vehicle to get from point a to point b.

you're going to get bias answers here. I came from a 2010 XLT F150 crew cab and while I loved that truck and would love to have another one the jeep is just more fun.

Does it make "sense" to keep the F150? You bet your ass and 90% of the people would say you're crazy going to a jeep from that truck( i know they did me).

However, I've had more fun in the jeep that I ever would have in my F150.

This all depends on one's ability to afford as I use my F150 often for the uses I bought it for (firewood, long car camping trips, trailering, larger storage for the bed, etc...) and the JKUR for daily driving up and down my mountainous roads.

I considered trading the F150 for the Jeep but there was a reason I purchased the truck, sometimes you just need a pickup....now if I lived in Maui, the Jeep for the win.

I don't even understand how you've made it this long on Maui without a brand-new Rubicon

As this is a Wrangler discussion forum I can suspect the answer is obvious. If you ask on an F150 forum of course may be different. All comes down to what you want. My son traded in a year old F150 for a Wrangler and hasnt looked back. YMMV

Never been to Maui, but I've been to BI a few times and it seems like there are tons of 4x4 trails there and with the ability to take the top/doors off it seems to me like it'd be the perfect vehicle to have on the islands

Full disclosure...chrysler dealerships are not going to be better when it comes to dealing with issues. This isn't a lexus unfortunately. As for the answer, I'm on my second one in 2 years...so...yea, buy one.

I switched from a 2012 F150 w/ Ecoboost to a 2013 Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon and I don't regret it but there are some pros and cons

Pros for Jeep

Better offroad
Top comes off
Interior is easy to clean
Everybody wants a Jeep they are just a fun toy

Pros for F150 w/ Ecoboost
Tons more power
Better mpg
Tows better
Fit and finish is light years ahead
Better interior layout
Much more refined, the interior noise is virtually non existent

Get the Jeep, way more fun to drive. I went from a truck only guy for most of my life until we got the wife a new TJ Rubicon. I drive a JKU now but I still kept the truck to tow our RV with it. My wife will not part with her TJ.

So what is the going price on an Ecoboost in your area? Up here they are in the $60,000 range so I would expect far more quality from them then a Jeep of almost 1/2 the price.

That being said, I drove an Ecoboost for a month last summer while my Jeep was in the body shop and I gotta say that little motor is tons of fun. I would prob be up to my ears in speeding tickets if that motor was in my Jeep. I didn't see any better mpg out of that F150 though.

I lived on Maui for almost 3 years and would have loved to have a Rubicon. I did have a nice lil XJ that took us all over the island. I would highly recommend getting a Rubi but depending on where you live on the island I would make sure you get the right gearing for what you plan on doing with it. We lived up in Kula for a time and you can burn some serious fuel climbing that volcano everyday, and if you do get the Jeep sickness there's no fix for how thirsty they can be.

Wow! Quite the contrast in climates going from Hawaii to Oregon!

OP - Buy a Jeep! I won't even mind if you buy a granite. Also, when I visit Hawaii in a year and you tell me how great life has been since you bought it I will remind you that I get to borrow your Jeep while I am there.

I just bought a 2011 jk I love it so far I taken it off road almost every week when ever I have free time

Anyways you either hate it or love it
If your into outdoor life and take it off-road or camping it's a car for you

But if you just want a smooth ride good on gas your going to hate it

I think the worst part of a jeep is gas it sucks other than that I love the Sunny days to go topless

i'll tell you right now regards to ford having sh!tty dealerships, from what i've heard on these boards jeep dealers are no better. as for is it a right decision for you to get one ? why wouldn't be ? you live in one of the most nicest places in the world, you have constant sun, beaches, as someone else pointed out moutains.

To me that sounds like an ideal location to own a jeep in,get the jeep and never look back.

JUST DO IT! I don't know a single person who regrets purchasing a Jeep. Would it be cliche for me to say, "can't have just one," considering I just ordered my 6th.

Get a Jeep, but as others have said, don't expect service to be better. Get it because it will be fun to drive around Maui. If you don't have a Jeep dealer on Maui, though, getting warranty work done could be a major hassle, if not impossible. Is there a Dodge or Chrysler dealer there to do the warranty work? Need to think about that.

I went from a 2009 FX4 with all the bells and whistles to a 2013 JKU. The truck was nice but SOOOOOOO boring to drive. Jeep puts a smile on my face everyday

BTW.. Why does Ford not offer a standard in their trucks?? Might still have it if they did.

Note: If there is no dealership on Maui, what are you going to do for warranty work? Recalls? Will they ship you parts if you need them?
