To buy the extended warranty or not??

I purchased a 2012 JKUS this past weekend and I have the decision of whether or not to buy the extended warranty from Jeep. It costs $2700 for the "platinum" warranty. I think it lasts 72,000 miles or (I don't know how many) years. I have the documentation on the details in my file. The questions is is it worth it and recommended or not?? Thanks very much!

I could be wrong about this, but I believe the price is negotiable, and that you don't have to buy it from the dealership where you bought your Jeep.

Get us more info, is it a chrysler warranty? Is it maximum care? What deductible? etc,

IMO, it's way high.

Search for max care on this forum. There are several posts with costs (including dealer cost) for the Chrysler lifetime max care. Search around the web or just by from Pat its a lot less than what you were quoted.

I paid $1800 from my dealer, dealer cost is $1700 for the maxcare lifetime w/ $100 deductible.

I purchased the Maximum Care Lifetime warranty from my dealer for $1800 with a $100 deductible. I found that some dealers will offer you that price up front, and others say they can't budge on the price. I was told by a dealer that $1800 is employee pricing.

Just remember that these companies would not make money if the stats showed the price would not cover e costs. In other words the majority will never have enough claims to cover the cost of the warranty (save your money unless you consider yourself really unlucky).

Another thought is, Jeeps come with the 3 yr, 36 month "bumper to bumper" warranty...so if you buy another coverage right now for a warranty... your kind of doing a double coverage thing which isn't so necessary. What you can do is what until about 2-3 months before your Jeep factory warranty runs out then go to your local credit union and purchase a warranty from them. It doesn't matter if you have the vehicle loan with them or not, you should still be able to buy it. PLUS, very often credit unions can sell warranty's through a 3rd party much cheaper then a dealer so check with one if you are a member. OR simply just call your credit union and ask them to price quote you a platinum protection term and see if the dealer will match or beat the price for you.

The standard warranty on a jeep is not bumper to bumper. It's a standard basic limited warranty if you read it correctly. I got my 5 year 100,000 mile bumper to bumper plus other goodies for around $1100 after negotiating with the dealer and this covers my 2012 JKU Rubicon

Should you buy it from the dealer? No no no! They are offering it to you, because they benefit. Just remember that. The odds are with them as far as them making money vs your jeep messing up. Don't do it! If you still feel the need, keep telling them no until they basically give it to you. I have had this happen a time or two.

That's what I did. Started at $2000 and they dropped down to $1700. $1700 seems to be the average. I changed the subject and after everything else was finalized I said "hey-I'll do that warranty thing for $1400"
He said "I'll be right back" assuming he went to the bathroom or something lol
"sales manager said no less then $1500"
I went with $1500. I'm not sure what Patt offers on here but I think it's the best deal around if you contact him.

I bought it. Figure it's my daily driver so I am not going to beat to too hard and I want it fixed either way.

It’s a Jeep. If you keep it long enough you’ll use it. I purchased a number of other types of vehicles and I wouldn’t have got my money back.

So far on my Max Care extended warrantee I got my clockspring replaced and my rear lockers/carrier replaced. I got a “free” rental car for the clockspring repair and was out of town for the lockers so I didn’t bother getting a rental.

Good for you.

Bought my rubicon used. So I felt the max care would benefit. I'll pay for the simple stuff or do the work myself. If nothing major happens-it's refundable.

That's the plan

Any vehicle that I kept long enough the automatic transmission goes south. Also the electronics (computers, radio, etc.) start acting up. I figured they would do the same with the Jeep and got the extended warranty. Never had a clockspring or locker problem in my "cars" or trucks thouhg...

If you read, its a limited BASIC 3 year warranty that only covers manufacturing defects. That's different than bumper to bumper warranties and how they go about qualifying it for warranty work.
