too many wheel sizes and tire options... which do i want?

So I've been doing research on wheels and tires for months now, and I've (for the most part) decided on the setup I want. However, seeing as though I've never dropped that kind of money on this equipment before, I was hoping to hear some thoughts/ideas/opinions from experienced jeepers on things I may have overlooked.

What I'm buying:
- Teraflex Performance Leveling Kit
- 33x12.5 tires
- 15x8 wheels, 3.75" backspacing

I'm getting the performance leveling kit because I will eventually be putting some bumpers, winch, etc, and I read the aftermarket springs handle the weight change better than stock. The tires will be an all terrain since this is my daily driver, definitely open to hear thoughts on something that looks aggressive without altering the drive too much. Tire size is for sure. The wheels are where I am starting to get a headache... I like the look of big 'ol tires on a 15" rim (I am going for the wide squat look), but I hear 16" rims are better for 35" tires, which I will switch to wayyy down the road when the jeep ages. I'm also pretty sure I want 3.75" backspacing because I want the tires to stick out, but I'm concerned it might be too much. Lastly, I cannot find any good sources on rim width, but 8" appears to be the popular size, but I'd like to hear opinions on that as well.

I know this is a big load to drop, but I really need the help. Thanks guys, and let's see some pics!

Your plan looks like a solid one to me. I wouldn't go as far as saying a 16" wheel is better for 35s. That's going to be a subjective topic there. I run 15" wheels in my 35s and they're great. It's a popular choice. But so is running a 16" wheel. The main advantage IMO of a 16" wheel gets right down to the backspacing. That's one thing about my 15" wheel that can drive me a little crazy. They spit debris -- granted, it's a garage queen in this cold Florida winter -- on my Jeep. It's mostly sand debris from the beach because I avoid mud. But still. A tad more backspacing would be nice to have (~4.25" would be great).

hahaha, that load was verbal diarrhea...

i really dig the fit of your wheels/tires. how does the tread on those feel on pavement? i think the 15" wheel is gonna be the way to go. so i guess youre backspacing is 3.75" and your wheel width is 8"?

Correct, 8" wide wheel with 3.75" of BS.

The tread feels fantastic on road. This is the first real MT tire I've ever had in my life. My Tacoma didn't have nearly the size rubber on it as I have now on my Jeep. I was fully expecting horrible ride characteristics and that awful drone you hear from some of these huge trucks riding down the road. I have neither of those and am very happy with the decision I made.

The weight and cost were the deciding factors for me when deciding between 15, 16, or 17" wheels. I'm a weight hound though. I try to save where I can.

If you are replacing worn out tires and going with 33's on stock rims, that is a good way to save some coin.

If you are going to buy new wheels and tires - especially if you are going with 15's - save up an extra month or two, shop around a little more, PM a few forum vendors, etc... and just grab the 35's!

35's are super tempting, they were on top of my list for a while. whats keeping me at 33" is that this is my first real, brand new vehicle, and it drives so well that I'm worried about altering the feel too much too quickly; i dont want to fully lift it just yet. im definitely not gonna cheap out on the 33's though, im gonna take my time and do it well.

My 33's messed with my speed. It was telling me i was driving about 5 mph less than i actually was. So i bought the aev procal to adjust it.

Spoiled brat....haha, dont think ive ever been called such a name...maybe 40 years ago by my Gma. But ill play along, the TF kit is a good choice, i wouldnt get 15" wheels...tires will stick out to far and pelt your new jeep with rocks and debris.. And most 15" dont fit your jeep. Get 16or17" wheels, and what ever you do,dont get black wheels! you want Duratracs or BFG A/T KOs "C" or "D" rated will have the best ride...Both are quite on the road and very capable in all conditions, BFGs will last forever. Dont buy 35s, stay with 33s, you will be glad you did with your gear ratio and your anticipated use of the jeep. OK, now you know what I would do, and everyone else has there idea of what they would do.
It's still your choice.
