I will admit I had some trouble getting them back on but the amount of bends and damage here is kind of blowing my mind. You'd think I'd notice it right away. The doors are bent on the side near the hinges--how the hell? And the driver side door is bent on bottom with that paint chipping. I have a cart for them when I remove them. Just noticed damage last night. I mean, my jeep was never meant to be a lawn ornament, but it's brand new. Are they really this delicate? Starting to wonder if this is vandalism and not me.
I dropped the driver side door once, but not on pavement. As for the bends...that's not a drop--no idea how a drop could cause the bends on the passenger side. They are bent in toward the inside of the door. Bizzare
$5oo nofault insurance deductible but still, this likely shows up on my carfax report if I claim it. So annoyed.
Not even 4000 miles and this happens the first and only time I remove doors? Can't be
That first photo I have almost done many times as I set them down. But yes they really are that fragile. The doors are quite heavy and the metal is quite light.
I bolted some hinges to a stud and hang them so the edges never touch anything.
.
Great idea! Why didn't I think of that :atomic:
I've seen other Jeep owners hang them up through the open window, but I always thought to myself that it would damage the weather stripping around the window. A couple female door hinges can't cost that much and are probably easy to find at a scrap yard.
I am going to disagree with the crowbar damage, only the doors are damaged, not the main body...the only way to do that damage with a crowbar would be to wedge it between the door and the body, both sides would show damage.
My guess, they were damaged while they were off or you damaged them putting them back on...check your cart that you used, it's most likely the culprit
I've had my doors on and off hundreds of times. Stored on a cart..... Never seen anything like that. I'm looking at your pics on my phone but that looks really bad. The one looks like a drop. The other, I can't tell.
OUCH! The first time I took mine off I unhooked the "holding strap" turned my back with the door not closed and it swung into the side of the Jeep. The mirror bracket put a nasty dent in the side panel behind the hood. $90.00 the paintless dent repair guy had it looking like new again.
My doors look like that from the previous owner. Never really knew how it happened.
