i keep running into the same issue: seeing a good sale on a floor jack and jack stands only to realize that the jack stands are borderline worthless (aren't tall enough) and the floor jack doesn't extend high enough to lift the body of the jeep. other than the obvious hi-lift jack option what does everyone do for floor jacks and jack stands to work on their jeeps? trying to be safe. i could obviously use blocks to make the short jack stands work but would prefer not to.

do i need to just bite the bullet and get some tall jack stands and a good floor jack?

If you are that high maybe you need some cribbing material.

im not that high. but 3.5" lift and 35s (eventually 37s) getting a jack stand to reach the frame cannot be bought locally that i can find.

I can only assume you aren't a very resourceful type.....jacking up a lifted jeep is pretty simple compared to some of the trucks I have driven over the years, including an F-150 Supercrew with 9" lift and 38's. Find some 4x4 blocks....bricks....hell...whatever it takes. Figure it out!

Good thread, right on time. I bought a set of 6 ton jack stands from HF and also 3.5" ton floor jack.
Floor jack lifts the axle from the under differential till the tires are off the ground, then i put jack stands under axle tube from both sides. I only do this for tire rotation. Never tried yet, but i guess working under jeep, i would put stands under frame using 2"x4" as other mentioned.

Would like to hear other opinions.

that should work but i think the 6 ton jacks, depending on your lift and tires, might be borderline on height. i might go straight to 12 ton jacks for the frame and axle if necessary with 3-4 ton jack and eventually pick up smaller jack stands to use with the others for suspension work.
