Top 10 JK "Must Do's"

Hi all, i'm pretty new to the forum and have been doing some mod research for my new 2013 JKU, i found a ton of information and thought it would be useful to have a top 10 (or more with your support) "Must Do's" that are cheap, easy and make the Jeep experience that much better!

So on that note here are a few I think fit the spotlight:
1) Poly-fill the speaker boxs - huge difference, only cost some time and a pillow
2) Grease the door pin hinges - so they pop right off when the sun finally comes back out! some emery cloth can help smooth the process if you have some rust build up already.
3) K&N air filter - cost ~$50 instant boost of 3~5 mpg depending on driving habbits and rig (you can gain about 60 more miles per tank of fuel. the air filter will pay for itself in ~5 fill ups.
4) ...?

Remove doors and top in summer. Free.

I've greased the door hinges, but haven't done either of the other two you listed.

Welcome to WF, by the way.

+3-5 MPG isn't going to happen. I saw maybe a 1-2 MPG gain after K&N filter + exhaust + Superchip

1) take it off road
2) get it dirty
3) repeat steps 1 and 2

LOL @ the air filters being a must do. It's more like things you could do after you run out of everything else you could do to it.

The only must do's I've done are replacing the headlights and adding a security trunk. This is my DD so I had to have those two things. I think everything else falls under wants.

The must do's for me would be the leveling kit (Teraflex), $130 bucks cheap and improves the look times 10. Plus you can sell it when you have saved for a lift or decide to get one.

Narrow the front bumper, again 60 bucks cheap and ten times better look.

Just my >02

Does changing the air filter really increase MPG?

It can but there's a trade-off. A higher flowing filter can let more dirt in and eventually cost you more in engine repairs than the fractions of a mpg in fuel you're saving.

I wouldn't run a K&N if I often drove in dusty conditions, but otherwise it's fine. Mine is still completely clean @ 5000 miles.

RECOVERY POINTS if you wheel at all!!!!!!! (front and rear)

Cheap and will save a lot of headache down the road.

Agree with the leveling kit too.

3-5 mpg was my experience on a 2010 JKU manual trans & stock, I had a hard time believing it myself. Tires, lift, and other mods would obviously affect this number. In my experience, it was a positive improvement…

Yanking out all the carpet was a must for me. The jeep is colder, louder, more uncomfortable, and hot under the feet sometimes now .

Just the way it should be.

If your 2013 is an auto, get some skids to protect the tranny cooler line under the transmission. It's in the open and vulnerable if you actually decide to take it offroad.
