Total soft top failure

Last night we had a fairly large thunderstorm while I was coaching our HS girls' summer league team. I came out to find that my the factory soft top on my 09 2 door completely failed to keep my interior dry. It wasn't just wet by the corners or the header, but everything, and I mean everything was soaked.

I thought long and hard to try to determine what the issue was that caused this sudden and complete failure of the top to keep my interior dry. I know it wasn't the weather stripping. My best guess is that it had something to due with the top being down and folded up in my Smittybilt boot, but I'm still continuing my investigation. I'll try PM'ing Geoff before contacting Bestop to see what they think. If any of you have any other ideas I'd be glad to hear them. :thumb:

did it leak like a sive , or just the header at the top of the wind sheild, allowing rain water to channel and drop at will all over the inside of you jeep.
sorry to hear this tom. just my .02

hahaha... nice! if you had a pentastar it wouldve put a force field around your jeep keeping it safe from moisture. have you heard about the new 2012s? i heard it doesnt even need a top... ever! LOLZ!

Dang Tom..... Sucks to be you! :D Next time I would suggest dropping what you're doing and running to the Jeep, removing the boot, and throwing the top up at the first hint of rain... However, you may prefer that soggy bottomed, rain fresh interior scent that is so lovely on a warm June evening.... ;)

At least my neoprene seat covers soaked up every drop of water and transferred it directly to my pants.:thumb:

Can you confirm the boot's ability to keep the soft top warm and dry during said downpour?

The boot performed flawlessly! The top remained completely dry. In fact, if your goal is to keep your soft top completely dry during a sudden down pour, I would highly recommend getting one!
The question is, did the boot keep the top dry?
Answered! :whistling:

Our customer service team has a bulletin board with comments/questions a lot like this one. It's impossible to tell if they are all serious or not.

My favorite is the person who seemed really upset that the mesh Bikini didn't stop all the rain storm from getting in. Sorta like complaining your screen door lets out the heat.

Both the original and this post are great. Geoff, I guess that customer thinks there are screen doors on submarines too.

...maybe you could have chanted from the infield and buffed up the Jeep's aura strong enough to repel errant dihydrogen oxide molecules...

Man Dag, I'm awful sorry about what happened.

We've had some really intense storms the past few days around here, and the inside of my Jeep's stayed dry-as-a-bone. Do you think it could have anything to do with my top being up, while yours was down?

I dunno, I'm just throwing it out there. I'm not an expert. Maybe this is a warranty issue?

By the way, can I put 35s on my stock "rims"? Will I have to regear? And, if so, would it be better just to add an air intake?

I think if you lift high enough, it would have prevented this problem.

Did you check to make sure the windows were down, or that your doors were off? If that was the case I see no reason why your Jeep wouldn't get totally soaked.

I think Geoff is on the right track. A scathing letter to Fiat is in order.:thumb::rofl:

Shhhhhhhh... Everybody quiet down. He's about to speak about the holy pentagrail again!

the best thing to do is ignore him until he actually buys a Wrangler. I was just thinking, one of the reason I got so wet on the way home was probably due to the slug under my hood. If only I could have driven faster than the rain!

You are almost correct. Clearly you haven't seen the press conferences with Fiat. If you had a pentagrail, Neo would come out of the Matrix and bend the raindrops around you.
