Tow Hitch - Jeep or U-Haul??

I'm lookin to add a tow hitch to my 13 Rubicon JKU. The dealership wants $390 but its only $260 at U-Haul. I've always been a believer of getting what you pay for although it just seems like anything Jeep is more expensive. Anyone have any advice??

Also...how does everyone feel about towing with the JKU?? I've towed with pick-ups and other SUV's before so I'm interested to see how my Rubicon feels. 3500lbs isn't exactly a huge tow capacity but thats not why I bought it. I do have a six speed so the 410's should have no problem. Thanks in advance!!

Just buy the hitch and wiring from q-tech or northridge or somewhere and install it yourself. I think you're looking at about $100 or so, if I remember correctly. 4 bolts and you're good to go. That was the first thing I did to mine and have used it to help people move, tow boats, etc

towing with a jku is a bit tedious, i pulled a yj on a trailer with my uncles jku rubi , but his was also an auto, so YMMV, it towed it fine (all flat roads) but im sure i was exceeding the tow capacity, and i was in no hurry lol

I think the last time I saw the hitch on amazon it was only $52! Being over $25, it qualified for free shipping as well.

i bought the rugged ridge with wiring harness for 63 shipped to my door from amazon. it took about 10 minutes to install. I was changing my rear bumper at the same time so that made it even easier.

Pretty much all the above. Qtech has 'em for $86 I think, comes with wire harness and a cap for the receiver when your not using it. Free shipping to boot. 5 minute install, very easy.

If you spend more than $90 shipped, you are doing something wrong.

I have the Q-tec version...which works great. A lot of people get the Rugged Ridge version from Amazon

The only thing to look for is welded nuts...which makes the install super easy. The hitch is 4 bolts...that's it. The wire harness is plug and play, and only requires removing two screws from the tail light to access.

I picked up the Rugged Ridge (exactly like OEM) hitch AND wiring (again, exactly like OEM) on Amazon for $61.43 shipped...shop around! You can get it for cheap, and install is EASY! Here is a link: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I don't, and haven't, towed with my jeep. It's free advise and maybe that's all it's worth.

A 2dr (2000 limit) or a 4dr (3500 limit) can pull way more than 3500 pounds I imagine. The issue is stopping and turning with the wheelbase and suspension. If your going to be pushing the limits you may want to consider a 7 pin wire harness and break controller. You pair that with a trailer with breaks. With the break controller you can adjust how much the trailer breaks when you do. From a quick search it looks like it also charges a trailers battery if equipped. The standard wire harness given for a jeep is a 4 pin. That gives break lights and turn signals. There are adapters to make a 7pin fit into a 4 pin hole.

There are different hitch classes. Almost all jeep ones are class 2 or 3. Class 3 is a more robust connection.

Correct about adapters, but they go the other way. The adapter is from 7-pin to 4-pin. An adapter from 4 to 7 will not add brakes if you don't have the power or signal running to the harness.

Did you any problems with yours. I did the same order and installed mine two days ago. I went to put in the hitch ball and for some reason the holes did not align. I had to take to a shop to have the holes bored out a bit more to get the hitch pin across. Probably because its made in China. Although I'm still very happy with purchase.

Nope, no issues. Everything lined up and went on perfectly. The hardest part was getting the rear bumper off. After that it was smooth sailing.
