Tow Package question

I have a 2010 Sahara w/auto. I would like to install the tow package so I can pull a single axle trailor. What parts are included with the tow package? Is it just the receiver and the wiring harness or do I need to change suspension parts? What is included in the factory package and can the dealer install it aftermarket or is it stricktly a factory option?

The mopar package comes with the hitch, wires and tranny cooler. Or at least the one the dealer put on mine did.

X2. Forgot about that since mine already had it. But depending on what else this jeep will be used for, if they have to up grade the gears you might be able to pay a little extra for 4.11's

The factory package also comes with a trailer sway control.

From the manual:
Trailer Sway Control (TSC)
TSC uses sensors in the vehicle to recognize an excessively
swaying trailer and will take the appropriate
actions to attempt to stop the sway. The system may
reduce engine power and apply the brake of the appropriate
wheel(s) to counteract the sway of the trailer. TSC
will become active automatically once an excessively
swaying trailer is recognized. No driver action is required.
Note that TSC cannot stop all trailers from
swaying. Always use caution when towing a trailer and
follow the tongue weight recommendations. Refer to
“Trailer Towing” in “Starting and Operating” for further
information. When TSC is functioning, the “ESP/TCS
Indicator Light” will flash, the engine power may be
reduced and you may feel the brakes being applied to
individual wheels to attempt to stop the trailer from
swaying. TSC is disabled when the ESP system is in the
“Partial Off” or “Full Off” modes.

The factory tow package no longer comes with a tranny cooler. For your needs you can add a reciever hitch and wiring harness for less than $100 and about 30 minutes work. That's what I did. All I tow is a 6x10 utility trailor with dirt bikes, a lawn mower or golf cart.

I recently found several sellers on flea bay. There are a few options in the $100-$150 range, including some that come with the wiring harness. Quadratec has them too.

I have the Rugged Ridge hitch and wiring harness. It appears identical to the Mopar and Smittybilt.

Cool. Thanks. All I want to tow is a utility trailer, so I should be ok with just the receiver hitch and wiring harness. I did check ebay and see the available packages for around $150 and they even included the ball and adaptor.

I got the hitch and pigtail for under $100. It is super easy to install. Just 4 bolts and the pigtail pluggs into the left rear tail light. I suspect Mopar is a rebranded Rugged Ridge part. Look for the best shipping deal. Good Luck

Good idea for sure. Also, I have 3.73 gears and 33 inch tires and I turn off my overdrive when I tow.
