Tow question and another question

Hello Jeep owners, I will possibly be one soon. Anyways Im sure this question has been asked before but Im gonna ask anyways. I am looking into purchasing a 2012 wrangler sport or 2011 sahara. I have a 17 foot boat that weighs about 1800 pounds, will I have any trouble towing it. Also what do you think is a better buy. A 2012 sport 23s package at 27gs or a brand new 2011 sahara at $25,700. Im leaning towards the sahara. Hope to get a few good answeres from you fellow veteren wrangler owners. I will soon be one of you...later

IMO I would get the '12 as it has considerably more power. I think each COULD tow your boat....but not sure that much boat behind a Jeep is a good idea on a regular basis for either one of them. For some people it might get a little "squirrely", but I also believe that some people will say "No problem".

Bottom line the '12 equipped with the "tow package" would give you the best possible results, but I get nervous pulling something almost as big as what I am towing with, unless it is like 5-10 miles back-roads 45mph.

I PERSONALLY wouldn't want to tow on the interstate with that combination. Good luck!!

and welcome to the FORUM!

my 2011 sport has no problem pulling my 17 seafox center console.would say you will have no issue.is the weight with trailer and fuel/gear?if not check the complete weight of all.we are rated at max 3500 lbs.would say a 2011 sahara brand new at 25K is very good deal

Just my 2 cents...I purchased a 2011 JKU Sahara and kept it a very short time before trading it in for a 2012. Very poor planning on my part but I'm thrilled with where I landed.

Is the 2011 manual or automatic? If it is an automatic, it is likely to be way under geared. What you'll spend in regearing later could have gotten you the 2012.

Another problem with the 2011 is that there are no performance tuners available yet as the software has not been cracked.

The power of the new engine in my opinion is well worth the difference.

Yes, if you are talking automatics the 12 is a no brainer. If they are manuals could boil down to personal preference. Since you are towing, check the gearing on the 12 you should be looking for the 3.73, they are NOT standard with the 2dr tow package. I have a 12 with 3.21 gears and it tows 2,000 lbs ok, but I wish I paid a little more attention when I bought mine. The 3.73 was standard with the automatic in 2011, it is not for 2012.

Thanks for your replies..they are both manual. The sahara is cosmos blue and i think it.looks real sharp..dont tow very much on highway, maybe two three times a summer. Most of my towing is done locally no more than 15 miles away.

Im leaning more towards the sahara.
Do you think a brand new 11 sahara for 25k is a better deal than a 12 sport for around 27k. They both include both tops and im sure you guys know the difference in options . I know the 12 has the bigger engine. Im not sure what to do..pretty much using it as my evryday car. Maybe do some offroading.

The 4 door with tow package is rated at 3500lbs. The 2 door is only rated at 2000lbs.

Yes don't settle for the 11
Buy a 12
Look around you can order just what you need
I waited two years to purchase mine because I pull a boat with it and the 10 & 11 were dogs compared to the 12
