Wheelbase is the distance between front and back. Wranglers have a shorter wheelbase than a pickup truck for example, and it's much worse in a 2-door. That's why the 2-door ALWAYS has the 2000 lb limit.
A lift will actually make you LESS stable since it raises your center of gravity. I doubt you'd notice...if the trailer starts throwing you around you're more than likely completely screwed whether you're lifted or not.
