I have a 2008 2 door Wrangler. I am looking to pull a 6 x 12 V nose enclosed trailer with a single sportbike inside. I do not have the trailer, and have not figured the weights yet.
I would be looking to tow this from Chattanooga to Nashville or Birmingham ( about 175 miles or so each way.
I read that the 2 dr can only tow 2000 lbs. and it looks like this would be pretty close, without checking the trailer weights yet...
Just wondering if anyone has any experience with doing something similar.
I tried flat towing a 2,300 lb. Willys behind my 2 door JK. No big deal on short hauls at low speeds. I would say you are asking for trouble going 175 miles at highway speeds. If the load were lighter and the trailer has brakes, then you may fare just fine...
I do that with my 08 Rubicon Unlimited (4 door). A 6X10 rounded nose extra tall with roof rack and 4 kayaks on top. Near the load limit of the trailer of 3K, camping gear inside and small kayak trailer also inside. At highway speeds it is a little gnarly. I don't know if I would attempt it with a 2 door. The wind load alone might be a problem on the two door (the tail wagging the dog). I would agree short distances at lower than highway speeds would probably be ok. The trailer thing is the main reason I own a 4 door.

what sgnellet said. i have a cheapo trailer from home depot to haul my bike back and forth to the track. just put kind of mesh screen / mud guard rock blocker to keep crap off the bike. or get a nelson rig snug fit cover and tow that way. enclosed and short wheel base dont mix. trailer dealer will tell you its fine but they just wanna sell stuff
