Rated for 2000. The engine/transmission/gearing will pull more. Stopping more is the problem. DO NOT try to tow more on the highway. You might get by with pulling a heavy trailer around on a farm etc. at slow speeds. But are asking for trouble on the road.
I pull a Carolina skiff 19dlv with my jk. It def exceeds recommended towing capacity but pulls it fine. Just have to be very careful and try to brake very lightly.
Wranglers tow fine. I pull my 20' release to the ramp every weekend at around 2200 lbs with the trailer. My 2003 rubi doesn't even skip a beat.
