TPMS question

There's probably a thread about this already but I put new sensors in my new wheels on my 2013 Rubicon and haven't been able to figure out how to get the Jeep to read the new ones. My dealer couldn't even figure out how to do it. Can anyone tell how to do this or does the dealer have to do it? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

This was in a post. Probably why it doesn't work: The new sensor is frequency 433mhz for the 2013.

The new part # is 56029398AB

The 2012 version is 315mhz

The sensor are looking for whatever pressure is listed on the door sticker even if it's not the correct PSI for the new tires. The ECU needs to be flashed to change for the correct PSI. It can also take several days and quite a few miles for the new sensor to be read.

I'm not buying that new frequency story. Someone posted the same thing about the 12. I put 12 Rubicon tires on my 09 and it read the TPMS just fine.

does the AEV procal work for the 13s? if so, buy one... best $150 you're going to spend.

No it does not. There was just a post about AEV working on the software for the 13's. You can buy it an when the software is ready, you can send it to them for a reflash.

Whether the frequency is the same or different from 09-13 I don't know but it seems as if it's not working at all based upon his description. I would want to believe that the dealer would know to flash the computer, but maybe not. Given that the computer recognizes the frequency would it matter what wheels/tires were on it. If the tpms sends 10 lbs. for example it should go off. If it sends 37 which would be door sticker for a Rubi, or above, it shouldn't go off. I thought it senses pressure not wheel/tire combinations. Since he has a Rubicon if he's running 37 anyway shouldn't he be fine. I agree that it could take a few cycles of at least 20 min. in duration to synch.

The op should get the part # off his invoice and see that it's 2013 compatible. On my '08, '10, and '12 there is no programming, buy the sensors put them in and the light quickly goes out. Another user (today) had a crappy gauge that read 37 psi when in fact it was 32 psi, that's why the OP should overinflate them to 40 psi or so just to see that it's no a bad gauge issue.

According to the dealer these are the correct sensors for my model year. They don't read anything at all, the dispay just shows lines in place of the numbers. As far as driving it some, they've been on the jeep for about a week and several hundred miles so I would guess that's plenty. I thought they were working at first because I drove it twice before the pressures went blank even though the other tires were 10 miles away... I thought that was strange.

Ah, forgot about that. 13's have the actual display numbers. Earlier versions do not. All bets are off as far as what anyone here has told you. You are at the dealer's mercy.

wow the 13s display the tire pressure for each tire in the display on the dash? didn't realize. haven't really looked into any of the 13 model year threads. maybe i should learn a bit more....

That's was the only feature I wanted from 2013 when deciding on 12 or 13.
Been wishing if they would release an update to flash the computer to have that in 12

2013s only have individual tire pressures if you order the connectivity group to get the EVIC, otherwise it should still have the light only. As far as I know this applies to the Sport model only (don't all Saharas and Rubicons come with EVIC?)

My question is if you have a 2013 Sport w/o EVIC, does it use 315 mhz ('07 - '12) sensors or does it use the the 433 MHz sensors like the 2013 EVICs do?

I called my dealer's service department and they had no clue, they hadn't worked on a 2013 yet . . .

I'm quite interested in the answer to this. I want to swap my current tires/wheels to my new Rubi when it comes in - I'm wondering if the sensors will work or if I'll have to swap them.

I have the new 433mhz sensors installed in my new wheels and tires on a 2013. They were recognized almost immediately. They are showing the correct pressure compared to and accurate gauge. They are at 33psi now and not showing an error light. I need to do a chalk test and drop them a bit lower if need be.

Assuming since you said No Error Light, you do not have the EVIC w/ Individual Tire Pressure readout?

I have the individual tire pressure readout. My understanding is you would still get an tpms error light if they fall below a set level. I know my Acura had individual tire readouts, but if one or more were below a certain level a tpms error light would trigger.

On my CTS-V, the warning light comes on, and then if I switch to the readout display, the indiviual tire with the problem will blink the number. Wonder if they made this one sophisticated enough to do the same?

I hate the freaking horn. HATE IT!

I even replaced it with another crappy one from Amazon (Wolo Model 419 Bad Boy Black One Piece Design Air Horn Kit - 12 Volt) which kept blowing a fuse until I put in a 15 amp one.

Guess what -- STILL LAGS!!!

This is correct. It works the same way on my 2011 Grand Cherokee EVIC with individual readouts. On my Grand I'm at 33psi with 275-55R20 and the sticker says 36psi for the stock 20" tires (265-50R20). My low pressure warning only came on at 30psi one winter when there was a wild temp swing. It looks like the newest Wrangler EVIC is usinf the same sysetm as in the "WK2" Grand.

2013 tpms compatible with 2012?

Well, I've heard so many different opinions on this matter. I have a 2012 sport s, and i bought 2013 rubi take offs. OK, i swapped them out today and no tpms light came on. It read it just fine.

New here and changing out my 13 sport for 13 Moab tires and wheels. Bought new sensors as back up. Found this when looking for information on installing new tpms sensors and programming. Thought this might clear up a lot for people with 2013 JK's

Schrader 20398 TPMS Relearn / Reset Procedure for Chrysler, Dodge, Fiat, Jeep, Ram, Volkswagen

Your vehicle was equipped from the factory with a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) that turns on every time you start the engine.


The TPMS Relearn Procedure for the Schrader 20398 original equipment tire pressure sensor is very simple and will require no programming, relearn, or diagnostic tools.


Your vehicle will automatically learn the new tire pressure sensors after driving for 10 minutes or more above 15 MPH.


When the low tire pressure indicator is lit, one or more of your tire pressures are significantly under-inflated or over-inflated.


"SERVICE TIRE PRESSURE SYSTEM," "TIRE PRESSURE UNAVAILABLE", or "CHECK TPM SYSTEM" will be displayed in the Electronic Vehicle Information Center and the low tire pressure indicator will flash for about 60-75 seconds every ten minutes when a system fault is detected.

Thank You for paying this! I traded a 08 for a 13 and swapped aftermarket wheels. I wonder where the OP got the sensors? I bought mine from EBay for a lot less than the dealer wanted:

Search on the part numbers on the internet and you will find TPMS suppliers out there a lot cheaper than mopar.

if you're going 2013 to 2013 no need for new sensors... they are all 433 hz in 2013

In a nutshell, the 2013 sensors are "backwards compatible" with ALL systems from 2007-2012. The 2013 Wrangler TPMS system will NOT work with any previous models because the sensors don't transmit the actual pressure and will actuate the trouble indicator. Previous years only need a "Yes / No" signal. "Yes" - the pressure is within spec, or "No" - The pressure is out of spec. The new 433mHz sensors transmit the actual pressure, which can be read by the EVIC or the the basic TPMS which detects ONLY the 433mHz signal and not the previous years' 415 mHz signal. I have a non-EVIC Wrangler Sport with the same 433mHz transmittors as the rest of the 2013's and it works fine as long as my stock wheels are mounted. I changed out my wheels right after getting the Jeep with factory Rubicon wheels, but from model year 2012 - and my TPMS light has been on since. A really simple mod if this becomes an issue is to take your sensors (from all 5 wheels) and drill them into a PVC tube and make it airtight. Simply inflate the PVC tube to the desired pressure and toss it into the Jeep somewhere. Your TPMS light will never come on.
