I have a 2011 Wrangler Sahara Unlimited. I had issues where the traction control light started flashing and my Jeep started randomly "braking" and pulling hard to one side. I took it to the dealership and they looked at it the next morning. They could not get it to repeat the incident and there were no codes to tell them what was going on. Ever since that day, it feels like I have to force it to move. There always seems to be some sort of "drag". For example, Driving along at 80kmh (50mph) I take my foot of the gas and let it coast. However, it decelerates from 80 to 40 in about 500m. It felt like I was braking. As well, my fuel mileage took a big dive. It dropped by half.
Just wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar and what you found was the problem.
:banghead:
I have a 2013 Sport S and have experienced this twice now. Didn't pull to one side or the other - but light came on and it did engage briefly. I haven't taken it to the dealer yet but if it happens again I will. Seems fine though after it - no drag feeling.
I just had an issue fixed with the traction control. Turned out to be the wheel bearing hub was worn and aloud the pick up sensor for the ABS to wobble a bit. This told the stupid computer that the wheel was turning at a different rate to the other wheels, which it did not like. I had the same issues, loss of power and strange braking. Can't help you with which wheel would be playing up, but ask them to look at the wheel speed sensors and the hubs. may be the same issue.
Similar issue back in July. hit a bump or RR Crossing at 50mph or better. Traction control light and braking, sluggish operation. Stop, turn off the key, light would go away and drove normally.
Took it to the dealer, they said there was nothing in the PTM history that ESC had been activated. They did reset the module engine performance was better than ever until the next day when it happened again.
Drove straight to the dealer with the light still on, did not shut it off. Got the Svc. Manager to come out witness the ESC light. He took it straight back to a bay. They replaced the wheel sensors, that wasn't it. Then the PCM (power train control module). Finally after a week they installed another PCM and the Powertrain wiring harness. Problem was a shorted or broken wire in the harness..
Oddly, when I first took it in I told the SVC Writer it was acting like it had a shorted wire when I hit bumps and the ESC would come on.
I've the same issue. Stealership called and said they thought it was a wheel speed sensor. They're asking about the lift now and stating that it isn't under warranty because of the lift. Do you guys have a lift on yours and was yours covered under warranty? I fail to realize how the lift is causing the issue. If this were the case, then I think there would be a huge fallout of Jeep owners having the same issue.
i have a 2016 wrangler all stock esc lite went on then the truck slowed down i owned it from new lite went on 3 times since i owned it brought it to delaer they went thru whole truck nothing showed 9000 miles on it now had it 1 year any advice would be apreciated dont know what to do
Check that draglink is centered, check that wheel sensors are not bad, check that wheel hubs are in good shape. Also, since these vehicles are so electronic driven, check the battery. Check that your trackbars are in good shape - if a bushing is bad or something is loose, the axle can be trying to "walk" ever so slightly - which would possibly annoy the ESC nanny. And...find a new dealer if this one can't help. At 9k, you still have bumper to bumper warranty, which should fix whatever is wrong.
Or find a local Jeep club and have someone there help you diagnose in person. Try the local forum for your state here if you are not sure how to find someone. Most will help you at least diagnose it for pizza and beer.
I have a 2012 wrangler sport and several times the steering gets real loose the traction control light flashes on and off and the ABS shakes. When we get it to the dealership they say there are no codes and they can't reproduce it. They have already put in 2 clock springs. The problem is it may go a month or two between having problems. I don't know if this is related to the problems above but any help would be appreciated
it took me a while to figure the traction control lite come on and truck brake ingauge all i did is reset the computer all you have to do is disconnect the both battery cables on battery for about 5 minutes and it never happened again the dealer dident do anything for me they were clueless im telling you it was as simple as that
Did anyone ever truly solve this issue? I'm fighting it now on my 2011 JKU Sahara. I've changed all four wheel speed sensors and replaced two calipers (thinking they were sticking). This kind of helped but didn't fix it. Mine mostly happens when I'm accelerating out of a stop on a right turn. So frustrating....
my 2016 wrangler had the same problem dealer said no codes they were a waste of time i experimented so i disconnected battery terminals left off for 5 minutes and its bin fine ever since it had 15000 miles now has 40000 never had an issue i just reset the computer by disconnecting terminals good luck let me know
