trade in 2011 for 2013

I am thinking of trading in my 2011 2 door sport for a 2013-2014 4 door sport or better. The 2011 had 23000 miles on it and fully loaded in very good condition. Do you think a dealer would give me 21000 for it its would be ready to put on the lot when they get it. I could get a 2013 so they get it off the lot.

I know I could get more for it to sell it but I am not sure how well they sell around toledo ohio. Any ideas? Tips?

Just email a few dealers in your area to feel them out. Can't hurt to just ask!

Check KBB to see about where you would be on trade in. You probably are not too far off depending on the options.

From what i have seen thats what they should give me for it. Do most dealers go by that or completely low ball it?

They will offer you less then the blue book. Remember they are in the business to make as much money off of you as they can so most of them will start out low.

where should i go from there? I think i would come out pretty good getting trade value locked in around 20 if i can. Then after i find what i want give them the employee discount info. to from a few thousand off new 13 that they want off their lot anyways. Sounds like a win win to me? The only thing I want from a 2014 would be the radio being available on the sport package.

Find the Jeep you want...negotiate the price with out the trade. Then throw the trade in. If you think you should get 21 then demand it or walk. Also remember there is a tax savings when doing a trade..so going through the headache of trying to sell your self may not be worth the tax savings to get another grand or so. If you are close on the deal the dealer will make it happen. Be patient..

With the employee pricing I dont really have any negotiating I think it's just this price and that's it unless you can negotiate price then apply the employee prove discount?

Can't do that, the only other thing they can do is give you Excellent KBB on the trade, either way it is a numbers thing, I had FF Discount then they added a military discount.

I traded in my 2011 Sport S with 14,000, they gave my $22,500. KBB excellent condition was just under $23k so I was happy with that. They sold it in two days for $24,999

When I bought my 10A, I walked in the door with the FFP discount, told them upfront, and then negotiated hard on my trade-in value.

One of three things will happen ...
a) They do not agree to your price and refuse to budge
b) They agree to your price
c) You go back and forth until a or b happens

I went in there with a trade-in value in mind, and they came in 2000$ less than what I wanted. I basically indicated that was going to be a problem, and the sales guy and I went back and forth (very friendly) for a few minutes. Finally, the finance manager / sales manager came over and basically asked me if this was going to be a deal breaker and I told him yes - if they agreed to the value I wanted, I would sign a sales agreement right then and there.

They agreed, the papers were signed, and a new Jeep was purchased.

You really have nothing to lose ... other than money.

I wonder about getting them to negotiate on your trade-in first - because they might be inclined to come up on trade if they think you'll be paying sticker price. Then from there, say ok, I'll do it right now if you can knock $1,500 off the sticker, then we definitely have a deal.

I think if you negotiate on sticker first they've got a lot more ability to jerk you around with your trade in value.

Also helps to go in when its the last day of their fiscal month or quarter.

I work for a dealer in Canada. The most beneficial way you could sell your vehicle is through a convenience deal. A convenience deal is where you find your buyer and run it through the dealer. If you found a buyer for 22g on your Jeep that money would then be inputed as your trade figure. The benefit of that is your tax savings! In Canada we are taxed 13% so tax that 22g and you would receive $24860! Which is far better than just selling it privately for 22g. Be firm with them and don't let them push you around, I sell cars and don't get paid until my customer is happy with the service provided.
