Trade in the 09 Rubicon for a 2012 Rubicon?

Any help would be welcome, kind of torn. The 09 Rubicon Unlimited is in great shape with 9000 miles on it. Where might I go to sell if I don't trade in?

Thank you -
KennyJ

You'll get more out of it if you sell it yourself. Dealers make money on trade ins... Craigslist, newspaper, ebay, parking lot, street, etc are great places to sell items you no longer desire.

Selling it yourself will definately get you the most money for it but it may take a longer than you may want to wait. If you dont mind waiting for the sale, craigslist, ebay are probably your best solution. Also, if its not ur DD, I would put a sign on it and park it in a store parking lot.

I, again my opinion, would trade it in because i'm impatient. Plus your gonna haggle with the guy whose buying it so you might as well haggle with the sales guy on the trade. Just know what its worth before going in. Kelly Blue book or NADA will tell you the value on trade and sale.

Good Luck.

I listed my 2012 a few places online...took about a month but it sold off my craigslist ad locally....dealt with a lot of spam and people trying to lowball like crazy though...just be smart and use common sense before replying to crazy emails.

Sell it yourself. I bought a 2007 x in March of 2010 for 18500. Was offered 7,500 for my 2000 Harley F 150. Kept the F 150. Parked it at walmart with a very small for sale sign in the window a year later. Twelve minutes later a guy called and said I want it. He didn't know how much I wanted for it till the next day. He paid $11,500 and would have went to $14,000 he said. The spread on used cars (trade to retail) is ridiculous in Mississippi.

One consideration on pricing, etc., is if you pay sales or excise tax, it is a percentage based on the price of the new vehicle minus the trade-in. If your new JK is 32K and you can get 28K trade, you only pay tax on 4K. If you sell your jeep yourself and pay the full 32K you will pay tax on the full 32K. Do the math and be sure to include it in your negotiating, trade or U-sell..

Put it on as many websites as you can. Put it on several different CL locations. Each weekend take it to some banks parking lot. Put for sale signs on it and drive around.

Be ready to haggle.

Also talk to some small car lots. They may sale for you for a % of the sale.

I just traded a 2010 JKU Rubicon. Paid just over 30k last year and I got 26k now. That is equivalent to getting just under 30k with the tax savings.

People blow way more than $1000 at a night in Vegas so I went for it.

The 2012 was at invoice too.

At least in Missouri you can deduct the price of a vehicle sold in a private sale too as long as it is done within a certain time period (90days ?). The DMV has forms to use and you must submit certain other paperwork.
