Traded the JK for a hawk

Don’t flame on me because I switched…it was a great move on MY part. Being on the road 90% of the time (I usually wheel once or twice a month), 18-20mpg driving very conservatively as a daily driver, having a 4dr and no one wants to ride in the back seat, having stray cats sleep on my soft top every other day, and having a soft top during heavy rain while having to take out the rear window in order to fit a bday gift I just purchased for someone and put the window back on…I just had enough of it. I needed more creature comforts and convenience during any weather. I was gonna get a rubicon w/ a hardtop to fill in the cracks, but I know I’ll be spending more money on modding it.

12/09/2013 My last ride with the JK. I even washed /waxed it prior to going to the dealer (I didn’t realize that I was gonna make a purchase the same day)

I will miss the JK, and its capabilities, but I’m still happy with my new purchase. I left EVERYTHING on the JK as is. The best part is that I purchased the jk at a great price for 24k. The dealer trade in was 23.5k after 1.5 years of ownership. Btw, I’m still gonna go wheeling with my fellow wrangler buddies and new KL’s (2014 cherokee’s) since I entered jeepcherokeeclub.com.
I hated the vehicle at first when it was initially released but like the 2013+ rubicon wheels…I grown to love it when I was doing my oil change at the dealer…I then grew more fond of it since I saw it up close and in person. 2014 trailhawk brilliant black pearl. 3.2L, panoramic moonroof (I will miss the jk’s open air but this is close enough, and I don’t have to get out of the jeep to do it), nav, heated steering wheel/seats, dual zone climate control, a lot of room for storage (the glovebox fits half of my arm), keyless entry, remote start and even though I didn’t get the upgraded audio… the stock audio exceeded all expectations (I thought it was upgraded since the sound quality is clear and the bass thumps without any rattle). It rides like a grand Cherokee which I also considered but the panoramic roof is only on the expensive models which I don’t plan on paying. The 9 speed transmission is amazing. The shift is very linear and you can hardly feel it. I Love the JK, but I am In Love with the KL.

Some of the pics are the from the dealers website as I have yet to take many pics of it. With the pearl black that shimmers in the sunlight, hood decal, and the plastic covers, it reminds me of an iphone 5 with its monochromatic scheme.

First mod will be the weathertech floor mats which I will place an order this week, and Toyo Open Country AT2 in a few months since I had great experience with them on the jk.
-Dwight

I want to like the new Cherokee, but I just keep thinking "Dodge Dart"...

Go get it dirty and let us know what it'll do!

I initially went to the dealer to drive and possibly purchase a new Trailhawk. My wife said it was too 'car-like' and felt too small. She drove a grand Cherokee, a durango, and finally the Sahara JKU. She fell in love with the JKU much to my chagrin. The wife made me proud that day!

I have nothing bad to say about the Trailhawk - cool vehicle, just not right for us. Although, it sounds like it is right for you and that's awesome.

The only negative thing I will say is that comparing any motor vehicle to an iPhone is a bit disturbing...

Congrats Dwight! Enjoy the Hawk. If you have room for a 3rd vehicle, pick up a TJ or LJ at a good price and Mod away. If your wife gets a Jeep JK or JKU I hope to see you on the trail.

thanks guys.
the iphone comment was me referring to the paint scheme of the trailhawk, hence monochromatic.
Jay, i'm gonna take it to Azusa OHV proving grounds once i break in the engine. gotta see what this thing can do.

I don't think anyone here will rip on you for getting what you think you need. My wife drives a Chevy Equinox that's super comfortable and functions superbly everywhere but off-road. She's getting antsy for a Grand Cherokee, but I'm not sure that it would be worth the difference in price. But the GC Overland diesel looks really sweet!

The seats are awesome. The side bolsters actually air up and hug u with a flip if a switch.

It's also so much fun to drive. Linear power due to the 9 speed. Yes, there are a few members from jeepcherokeeclub that "had" trouble with it but since jeep has a great power train warranty, it doesn't matter. Just like the 2012 pentastars with the tick....it's a hit or miss, but warranted in the end.

Dealer just posted this on their website. I purchased the jeep 23988, traded it in after 1.5 years for 23.5k, now their selling it for 30k given all the extras. Bittersweet ending.

You know the nickname for it is the "Trail Weasel".....

Still...I'm all for getting what suits ones needs. I really liked a lot of the features of my old KJ.

OP, I am jealous!! I've been thinking of doing the same but my 'JKU is only 10 months old so it just doesn't make sense right now. I hate driving my jku because that solid axle just doesn't allow for a nice driving experience after its been lifted and its too much work to go back to stock.

So congrats, have fun.

Congrats. I will keep my JK until one of us (me or the Jeep) dies, but my wife and I looked hard at the Cherokee TH. Just too small. Ended up going with a Toyota Sienna Mini Van...hahahaha. Oh well. Enjoy your new ride.

I wouldn't of purchased it if it weren't for the jk's great trade in value. Yes I installed some goodies here and there but money well spent and been put to use as the wranglers intended purpose. I really don't mind the solid axles....it was just the rear seats and rear soft top entry (laundry, huge Xmas presents, groceries) that did it for me. Yes I could've purchased items to fix that, but not the rear seats.

Most of my off-road needs will be while surf fishing in the south Texas sand...last thing I need is to get stuck in some shallow sand ruts.
