Recently I have done many upgrades to my Jeep and I have one left. That requires the removal of my Wrangler stickers and my Trail Rated badge. I have already removed the Wrangler logos using my fingernail and some Bug and Tar Remover, however I am a little scared of removing the badge. My rig is an '08. I have had a bad experience removing a similar size badge from my HD Street Glide and that removal required me repainting my saddle bags. Obviously I would like to avoid a similar fix at all costs.
I have read a few threads related to the decal removal, but none on the removal of the badge. What do you suggest is the best way to remove my badge without damaging the paint beneath? Should I just man up and pull? Apply heat and pull (all I would have at my immediate disposal is my wife's hairdryer)? What technique have you successfully used in the past?
Any help is greatly appreciated! BTW, I hold nobody responsible for any damage that may occur with any suggested method. Anything will be better that than what I know right now and that is nothing... my fingernail won't work in this case!
Awesome! Thank you all. I will dig the dental floss from the bottom of the drawer, my wifes hairdryer and give it a shot.
I know many of you may think this is overplayed, but I am placing Zombie Outbreak decals in their place. I can honestly say that I wish the zombies would rise because with the arsenal of weapons I posses, I could single handedly save the city of Los Angeles... that and I am tired of killing paper, cans and fruit.

+1 :thumb: and patience. Removed badges from my motorcycle by being patient, heating the badge throughly (more than one time) and using some fishing line. like them on the rubi
perfect thread. just debadged all factory decals, and debating on the trail rated badge. ive read a few threads where owners are moving it to the rear, what are you all using to re-apply? Just curious - dont think i plan on re-applying, but wld be nice to know.
A member named sunnykk removed his Trail Rated badge and put on the rear...pretty sure he said that if you did it quickly, the glue was still warm enough for it to stick without having to do anything extra. :thumb:
honestly, I wouldn't feel to safe around you during a zombie apocalypse if you are afraid of removing the trail rated badge haha. good luck, it's one of the most simple "mods" you can do.
would send you mine & even pay for the shipping BUT it wont come off, tried dryer & fishing string (25lb) and the string broke after a few minutes & my fingers turned purple :banghead:
Sounds crazy but this works.and is not harmful to paint. Pull from top with fingers slowly puting them under as it pulls away from the adhesive. It will come off, your paint and clear will be untouched. Using a razr to cut foam back adhesive on badge side will help it detatch when you do the above also.
Thats exactlly what i want to do .how hard is it to remove the antenna .been wanting to do this recently .i never listen to am or fm thats why i pay for sirius .could you PM me with some instuctions on how to remove .thanks
I think if your going to remove all the badges and decals.. at least it could have been on the Sahara Wrangs.. because it would achieve that "euro" styling.. painted bumpers, fenders etc.. I've ssen a white JKU around town that's been done this way.. I'll have to see if I can grab a pic next time..
I used heat (blow dryer), and this orange plastic tip from adhesive remover (Floss was not successful, purple fingers and it kept snapping)
... and then "relocated" the trail rated badge just in case I need to prove to passengers that it is still ready for the trail, but can hide it when it annoys me
Just removed mine. I should have read this thread before I did to see the idea about relocating it right away while the glue is hot.
Now that I have it off and the glue has already cooled, is there a good way to glue it to move it a different spot? Thinking of trying gorilla glue and re-gluing it to the plastic on the inside of the tailgate.
I'd avoid using anything as permanent as gorilla glue. Maybe try scraping off the factory adhesive and picking up some similar adhesive tape from lowes and cutting it to fit.
