Transmission Noise when Shifting into Reverse or Drive

Hey guys,
The 42rle transmission on my 2007 Wrangler Sahara makes a odd noise when shifting from park to reverse or reverse to drive and vice versa. It does not make the sound when shifting into park. The noise could kind of be described as a buzz. It is pretty loud though with the window open you can hear it clearly. Is this normal? Also when I check the transmission fluid level it is much much higher on the side with no markings. Which side do I pick? Thanks for the help.

Buzz sound is normal won't hurt a thing when you no longer have the buzz & it slams in to gear then you have a problem

Buzz sound

Hi bpatmon and ron,

The buzz somewhat sounds like winding chain or spring?
I have the sound for about 2 sec. when I shift to D from N or P.
I have it when I shift to R as well, but shorter, like only 1 sec.
I don't hear it if I am inside the car with door and window closed, but if I am in indoor garage with window open, I can clearly hear it.

Are we talking about the same noise?
Mine is 2008 wrangler.
Thanks.

My 2015 JKU has started making a buzzing sound also. It happens when shifting from Drive to Reverse or Vice Versa and when I am turning the engine off - It will make the same buzzing sound but much quicker. I'm thinking of taking it to the dealership but hate having a dealer mess with my vehicle bc it always seems they create more problems than were originally there. Any ideas on what could be making this buzzing sound? It sound like some kind of actuator possibly.
