Tread Lightly question

I'm e-mailing various dealers to get price proposals for a new JK. I'll be using the Tread Lightly discount.

One dealer wants to put my control number in his ordering system to find out what pricing it spits out. (I know it's at least 1% below invoice).

If I email him my control number, is that number then used? Does it tie me to him?

You do not need to give him your control number up front. Ask him for the PP (preferred pricing) figure. You also need to find out if they are charging you Doc fees or other asst'd fees. There is a $75 admin fee for TL, but a lot of dealers will not charge it if they have their own Doc fee thrown in.

I would suggest having a Build Sheet made from a dealer, scan it and e-mail it to all the dealers around you and ask for the "Drive Away" price so you can compare apples to apples.

I'm going to copy this post to a notepad so I can just paste it every time this question comes up.

Everything you need to know about 2012 pricing and general info is here:
http://www.wranglerforum.com/f33/201...ad-101089.html

TL gives you a 1% below invoice price, no questions, $75 processing added. The dealer gets reimbursed as if they sold the vehicle at 1% above invoice. It's a great deal for them if they don't have to spend a lot of time on you and a lot of gas test driving.

I argued to 2% below for me, dealer getting reimbursed as if they sold the vehicle to me at invoice. I refused the doc fee. Call around, dealers will do it. Ask for the sales manager so you aren't put on hold over and over. Tell them you want to order a Jeep, you know what you want, you want it at this price, you have this deal for PP. No haggles, no telling what the other guy offered. This is what I want to pay. If you say yes, I'm coming down to place the order right now. If you say no, I'm hanging up the phone and won't call you back. Tell them this from the start, scripted. Stick to it.

They do not need any more initial information than what is above. You should be preapproved for the loan you need. I had some who wouldn't say yes or no, so I hung up. I had some who said no, so I hung up. The 5th guy I called said yes. 12 hours later I was sitting at his desk ordering.

Thanks, but most of that information is readily available from Tread Lightly or from a quick search on the forum.

My question was specific to the use of the control number and not about the discount in general or negotiating with dealers. I called Chrysler Affiliate Rewards and a lady explained that until a deal is signed the control number is still valid.

I guess I should have just called them in the first place. Sorry for wasting everyone's time.

Sorry, you didn't ask about the program but it sounded like you were confused about it in general. No waste. I assumed.

The answer to that question is in the last post.

No problem. Thanks for taking the time to spell it out. It will help others who aren't sure about the program and come across this thread during their search.

Just saying, for what it's worth, by letting the dealers compete I recieved a better deal than 1% under.
