Mine were snug, but didn't need a heat gun. I did the initial install out in the sun but can install and remove the windows in the garage now. Mine is only 2 months old. It will stretch out quickly!
2nd time gets easier, after that much better, I can now install / remove all 3 in about 10 minutes. Slide in rear window, zip 2 inches each side, zip half top of first side panel, tuck bottom in, tuck door side in, finish zip, repeat other side, roll in tailgate bar, tuck in rear, finish rear zippers, close gate.
I had it out today. Started raining and I pulled over and flipped the top down. Latch, latch. Easy.
Though I would like to have a long string or strap attached to the center of the sunrider so I can just pull it closed from the driver seat. That would be nice.
Edit:
Oh and what's with them big plastic things in the sleeves? Do I need those?
my thoughts were the same after installing it the first time... even the 2nd time it was still a little bit hard.. but everytime after that...it'll get easier... I have left them out for about 2 weeks now... hopefully it won't get any harder when I install them back
That storage solution is excellent and we have done it ourselves in similar fashion. But BIG word of caution: don't store them like this then forget and attempt to fold down the back seat.
I love my Trek NX as well. The best part for me is having just the canopy without the windows. That is basically how it has been all summer and the reason I purchased this exact top. I have the twill version and I agree it all stretches out just fine. My windows go on easy now when I give it a bath.
We were caught driving in the rain with the windows out. While we were looking for a bridge or something to get under to reinstall the windows ny wife looks back and says you know the rain really is not coming in or much water at all. We drove about 15 or so miles and ended up driving out of it. A bit later we stopped and checked, I was amazed but everything was dry just a tiny bit hear and there which was quickly wiped off with towel. As long as you are moving along your fairly safe, but stopped or parked not so good. We keep a canvas tarp and bungees in the back when we go windowless.
Do you have to cut the roll bar cover/pads to install this top? I saw some videos where they but two slices in each sides for some brackets.. is that the case?
Yep, 4 little slits, about 1" wide is all you need.
You can take some super glue and go around the perimeter of your cuts if you like to keep it from fraying.
