I'm negotiating over a jeep. Dealer offered invoice and won't go under. Any tricks to get them to go under invoice? This was his first offer (and their internet offer).
The car is in transit so they have not had it sitting on the lot.
1. Wait 'til the end of the month
2. Wait 'til the end of the quarter
3. Wait 'til the end of the year
4. (If you have one) Ask for more for your trade-in
5. Go there in person @ 1. or 2. or 3. and be prepared to walk out the door
6. Find a dealer with a deal you like and play the game
7. Military, existing leaseholder blah
8. (Possibly) Finance with them
etc...
Might I add, lead them to believe you want to add everything under the sun, paint protection, floor mats, extended warranty etc.. get the $$ rolling in their eyes and they will gladly bleed more in the price because they're going to make a killing in upsales right? Wrong..get their bottom price that you are happy with and come finance time drop the bomb and decline all extras. This will piss them off but they either decline to sell or sell. They can't change the price without looking ridiculous.

They will deliver within a reasonable distance as well. My mom (in Central Oregon) bought a Ram 3500 from them a few years ago and they drove the new one down, picked up the trade, and drove it back to Idaho (900+ miles round trip).
I just scored about 4% below invoice. This was with a Tread Lightly membership, but I only threw that in on the end. I was looking to order a new Jeep so I emailed about 12 localish dealers and said "this" is exactly what I am looking for, I am emailing all the dealers around, I would like your best price, and I am hoping to order by the end of the week. Then take the top few and play them off each other.
I'm sure there are better ways, and I have the advantage of several local dealers. Good luck!
That's ironic. I'm currently only about 2 miles from them. I had much better luck from Koon's in Vienna, VA. Very nice people at Steve White, and would have liked to buy local, but not for $2,000 more.
Go through one of those car locator web sites... request a bunch of quotes and let them duke it out. There's no secret you just have to be willing to put in a little legwork and potentially travel outside of your immediate area.
Most of the buying programs will get you at 1% below at best. There's more meat on that bone!
You have to find a "churn and burn" Dealership. NOT a "Jeep Only" Dealership where ALL the Salesman are living off what sits out front.
A C&B is busting everything out the door because the more they sell, the more product they get allotted.
Couple that with EOM pressure to move units - that's the key.
Ultimately these guys still have to make money... but they don't HAVE to make it on your car IF they can make it through 'other' incentives from the manufacturer - unit targets etc.
Lol I do that every time. I negotiate the price I want and then tell them to run my credit and call me when they agree to my terms. I go to the nearest restaurant and usually before I'm done eating I get a call back. Usually still have to haggle a bit more but it's part of the dance.
Depending on where you are definitely find a large volume dealer as a couple members mentioned above. I got a great deal on a '15 JKU back in October. A family member of mine is interested in a similar Wrangler so I emailed the salesperson I used. Almost 5k off a 38k sticker without even negotiating, that was in the first set of emails. I know I can do even better on it with some more discussion since the dealer sells such a large number of jeeps.
I was at the dealer. They don't have a lot on the lot but they have the car and options I want and not many others do.
They tried to give me the whole nitrogen, tint and wheel locks for $600 crap and I said I don't want it but they still won't budge on the price. Invoice is best they will do. :-(
Have you tried posting this question in a Texas local forum. Some dealerships are willing to deal more than others. Sending emails and/or using TrueCar.com may be helpful. As others have mentioned, Treadlightly will guarantee you below invoice but you must be a member for a period of time. You may be surprised how easy dealing from the front of your PC can be.
I found a dealership 10 minutes from my home that offered me 11.5% below invoice without a hassle. Disclaimer: this includes a $1,000 rebate.
Vehicle description or "factory order" followed by
"Where do you need to be above or below MSRP or Invoice"
I scoured the country and found a start-up dealership in Maryland that wasn't concerned with profit, but just moving product to satisfy Chrysler in order to earn their 4-Star rating. They were advertising a "too good to be true" price, so I called them and they told me that's my price - no games. Come in and it's yours. So I printed out the webpage and took it to my (non-commission sales staff) dealer, then negotiated $2500 for my trade-in (2003 Liberty Renegade w/152K+ miles) and $7000 down payment. I walked out the door financing $14,000 @ 2.9% through the dealer (You MUST know how good your credit is going into the process!! You can use it to your advantage!). Everyone was happy with that deal! Just FYI, right now you can buy a new car at an average of 10% below MSRP in the Tampa-Orlando, FL area, according to AOL. It's an art not a science but some can make it look as much.
Usually you get the question, what will it take for you to buy the vehicle. After a few trips to the "sales manager" I'll know if they are willing to deal or not.
Be flat out and tell them, I'll sign the papers if we agree on $X. Else I'll go to their competitor. Make it happen.
^^^Find a Dealer in your area, that is not having a very good month in sales. Wait to the last day of the month and then make your offer.
If that doesn't work, then try it again next month. There will be a month, that one of them will be hurting.
Just sent you a PM, I get nothing and want nothing from the dealer. All I want is for people to get great deals from a dealer that is able to give them. Drove my 4.5 hours home today!
The Jeep Dealers would not negotiate and My wife said for me to take her 2014 JKU and buy her the Tucson instead. Looks like I'm getting a good deal on it so hopefully I'll be done with it tomorrow.
A few others already mentioned it but we are approaching end of month. It may be worth it to go back in a few days when they are trying to hit numbers.
Contact Dave Smith auto in Idaho. You will be blown away by their pricing. I was well under invoice. I used their pricing locally but no one would get to his price. I ended up flying there and driving it home. Still saved thousands over what my local dealers were willing to accept.
