Trim around gas tank funnel

I just notice about a week or two ago that there is a small hole on the plastic trim that goes around the gas tank funnel to the gas cap's right. Anybody else have this & why is it there? Normally I would think it would be for the gas cap if it had the piece to make it hang there while you're filling up. But I haven't seen that type of gas cap for the jeep.

So then does your gas cap just come out in your hand completely? Like you can walk away with it?
If that's the case, the plastic chord that tethers the cap to the fuel fill assembly is missing..

A non locking oem gas cap has a plastic tether that fits into the hole. I know that a Mopar locking gas cap doesn't have a tether. When I removed the original cap and put on the locking cap I removed the tether from the hole of the non locking cap.

I knew I should have mentioned that, but I meant the one that isn't keyed to the ignition. I personally like having a separate key for a locking gas cap.

Yea I can walk away with it. It's a locking one that isn't keyed. Ok so it is for that.
