I just purchased the frame (see link below) but it doesn't fit. The license plate light is in the way. Anybody have a similar problem and find a workaround?
I looked at a couple others but there is so little space and each frame is thick that I don't think any would fit.
All you have to do to use a license plate frame in the rear is to start off with a thin frame. You still utilize the tabs on the right side, then get two 1/4" stainless steel self tapping screws and use those to attach the plate and frame on the right side. They will screw into the plastic nubs of the license plate holder without any issues. You need to use a short screw so that you don't go through the plastic into the metal tub. To make it all look uniform with the frame that you're using you can get black or chrome plastic caps, depending on the frame you use, that fit over the 4 screws that now hold the frame to the plate and housing. I did this with a black thin frame and black caps to cover the screws when I first got my JK and it works great. I never had an issue.

I ended up getting out my dremel tool, and cutting out a notch along the top to allow for the light. The two screws on the one side seem to be enough to securely hold the cover+frame in place.
I am surprised that no one makes a frame that is actually made to fit a JK.
Yep, the only one I've seen that fit perfectly was the fugly advertising one the dealer put on there...but I wanted to use my Catch & Release Wild Trout license plate frame so I had to do some tweaking...
Jeep should make a license plate holder that allows the owner to use four screws to attach the plate to the holder and with enough clearance to fit the average license plate frame.
(My apologies for the photo; it was the only one I currently had on Photobucket that showed the rear.)
It is on the European models and is nothing more than a small plough that hangs halfway below the bumper.
I have applied for an dispans (exemption?) from the vägverket (DOT?) which would allow me to buy the NAS license plate holder and wiring from the US and be able to use a smaller plate in the NAS location. I had to go through the same process on my Land Rovers previously.
I will be more than pleased when I have this holder that you are displeased with - I have no need of a frame though.
^^^Just drill a pilot hole in the right side, and install a screw. Mine is a chrome cover from Pep Boy's, that say's Jeep on it...:thumb:
Ignore the paint can, as I was using it in another Thread!
