Trouble with wheel sizes

Hi, I am trying to buy wheels and tires for my 2007 Jeep Wrangler Sahara Unlimited. The jeep has the stock 18" rims on it now, and I have had two tire professionals tell me that I can't go to a smaller wheel because they won't fit over the calipers. I wanted to go to a 16" or 17" wheel and a slightly more aggressive looking tire, but one that would do well on the highway as I commute 30 miles every day. The jeep has no other modifications or lift. Can anyone give me some advice? THX

Your "tire pros" are wrong. All the Jeeps come with the same brakes and also come stock with both 16" and 17" wheels (in addition to your 18" wheels).

A VERY popular combination here is a 15" wheel and a 33 x 12.5 x 15 Goodyear DuraTrac. You can also get a similar combination in a 16" size.

Check out this thread to get you familiar with what you can do on a non-lifted Jeep:

Largest tire on stock JK? Here's your answer!

You should get tons of info there and put you down the right path with your tire/wheel choice.

Good luck and happy Jeeping. Be sure to keep us updated an what direction you go. You'll quickly find out that each option has its benefits/drawbacks, so there is no one right answer when it comes to wheels and tires.

Let us know if you have any other questions.

Go to another tire/wheel shop. They obviously don't know what they are talking about, or they are trying to take advantage of you and sell you more expensive 18" wheels and or tires. Rubber for 18's are way more expensive than for smaller wheels.

There are a few 15's that will fit. Most all 16's fit and 17's, with proper backspacing of course. Now I say go to another shop because the one you are shopping at may not even know what backspacing you need for wider tires.
