TruckLite vs. JW Speaker vs. KC vs. anything else. Info needed...

Are there any links to direct comparisons for the leds out on the market for the JK?

If anyone has any direct comparisons on these, or other options available, that would produce high quality output I would appreciate it. Also any pros/cons would help as well.

Thanks everyone.

There is a thread in the lighting forum with side by side comparisons of the truck lite and kc led lights.

Search for Headlight Shootout. One of the members of another forum did a lot of good work to provide a methodical comparison.

The bottom line is you get what you pay for. The solutions vary from $100 for the cheapest and $800 for the best option.

I ordered the KC LED hilites because they matched the yellow on my AEV rims. The second day I noticed I already had fog and water inside the light. I called quadretec and they sent me a new pair out right away. One week later I once again noticed the same issue just not as bad as the first time. I called quadretec again and asked them if I could just return these and order the trucklites with the anti flicker harness. I have had my trucklites for about 2 months now and I haven't had any problems.

I will say I think the KC lites were slightly brighter than the trucklites but the early problems really turned me off to them. I couldn't justify the price difference for the jw speakers. With the money I saved I purchased some D2 duallys and run them in my fog lights spot. THEY ARE BRIGHT AS HELL!!! However because I went with the driving beam and they are mounted so low on the jeep you can actually drive with them and they won't blind fellow drivers. I have had the duallys in for about 3 weeks now and I do a lot of driving and I have not been flashed once. I absolutely love my set up.

Thanks for that. I was really interested in purchasing some dually's too but I am not off road enough to justify it. I would have to get some on road usage out of them.

I am running a 4'' lift with 35'', I will be replacing my stock bumper with the e-autogrilles (dont laugh) XRC replica. I am afraid the mounting points might be a little high and I would blind people.

What is the going rate on the JW's now? I know there are some good deals out for the Trucklites through a few sponsors but can't really run across the JW enough to see what is a deal and what is average going rate.

I like the trucklites for sure but the x artifact pattern is annoying. I'm over it now and don't often notice it but it is annoying so be warned.

I have been looking for pictures of the X artifact but haven't really found any that show it accurately. Is the flicker issue still hit or miss?

Also sad to hear the problems with the KCs...

Well I'm REALLY sad to hear about the problems you had with the KCs cause I just ordered some last week !! I saw several posts from guys with them and nobody else has reported this. I guess I'll just see how they work out. I was sold on the fact that they have the diode built in and don't require a harness etc.and I've had great experience with KCs in the past. I hope some other guys can chime in on their experience with them.

Hmmm yea if the bumper mounts for the fogs are high then yes you may be blinding people. I have an AEV 2.5 inch lift and 315 duratracs. The D2 are pretty low in my rampage recovery bumper.

It still could just be an odd coincidence that I encountered. I know they are pretty new but before I ordered them all my research seemed positive also. I'd be surprised if you have the same issue I did.

Here's a pretty good thread comparing the KCs to the TLs. New KC HiLiTES LED's against it's competitors

no mention of leaking/condensation though. Also, the KCs are re-badged Peterson's, which got good writeups from one of the auto-mags.

So I know this is a hypothetical but if you did not have issues with the KC's would you have liked them over the TL?

Yea, I liked the design more and seemed a little brighter.

The KC don't seem to have a breather to let moisture escape. I may be wrong, but it's what I see if the photos. If they added a breather it should fix the fogging issue. In the past I have taken solid cased cheap lights that got foggy or wet drips inside and I've drilled a small hole and put in a stir straw with rtv to seal it in. I leave a 3 inch tail of straw to prevent moisture from getting in, but it's enough to allow it to breath. It has fixed all my issues with foggy lights and water condensation. For offroad lights I put the straw next to the wiring harness and wrap it to the wires so you never even see it.
