Trying to decide: 2011 wrangler unlimted vs. 2012 wrangler unlimited

I just talked to the dealership and they are offering 0% financing for 60 months for their 2011 sahara wanglers unlimited models. I have been waiting patiently for the 2012 sahara unlimited model partialy because of the new engine/transmission. The prices of the jeep are similar but 0% financing can possible save me 5-7 thousand dollars in interest alone. So I'm trying to decide if the new engine/transmission as well as the other features are worth the additional money ill be spending. Could somebody who knows more about the engines weigh in on this for me please? I don't know enough about the two to make an educated decision. Thank you so much! I plan on keeping this jeep for a long time so I don't have an issue spending more now for a more suppier product

As far as your interest... Talk with Digital Credit Union. dcu.org If you do direct deposit with them, they can give you 1.99%. If not, right now they are offering 2.49%.

I did a little amort calc of a $40,000 loan, no down payment, 72 months, 2.49%. Total interest paid is $3,103.52. Half of what you are estimating in finance charges. And depending on how you load up your Sahara, and down payment, the interest will be even less.

So, with that out of the way, the two are a lot more closer. Plus, there is supposed rumor that they will start to offer 0% financing or $1,000 rebate on 2012s starting in September. No idea if this is true or not. But for those of us about to get them, and this turns out to be true, darn. 2 more weeks could have saved us $1,000 or better yet get 0% financing you will probably save more over the life of the loan, unless you pay cash.

While the 0% or 1.9% Chrysler is offering on 2011s sounds good, there are other options. I'm pre-approved at a credit union called DCU for 1.99% @72 months for a new 2012. This offer is only available if you open a checking account and have 100% of your income deposited electronically with them. If you do not want to do that, you can get 2.49% @ 72 months with only opening a savings account for $5 and a $10 donation to a school charity. I'm doing the 2.49% and it has been quite easy so far. Expires at the end of the month though!

I had the same dilemma and decided to get the 0% on a 2011. I was concerned about the engine issues that I have read here and elsewhere and decided to get the 6-speed manual. I am glad I did...the 6 speed allows me to get more out of the somewhat sluggish engine and it rides very smoothly at 70 mph. I had to have my Sahara shipped from Colorado to get all the features I wanted. Good luck!

Newbie here. I put 4714 miles on my wife's '10 unlimited last week (actually last 10 days) going to Colorado, Yellowstone, Montana, etc (from Ohio). The Jeep was a leftover 2010 sport and had 2500 miles prior to my joyride. Power is fine on trails, but the engine is underpowered on freeways (especially at altitude) causing the transmission to hunt. It is fine for city driving, just dogged with 3 guys and camping gear.

I am picking up a '12 Rubicon Unlimited later today. $36,995 sticker for $33,700 + tax/title. There are good deals on '11s, but good deals on '12s (with 40% more power and a 5th gear) are out there.

If they are giving you similar pricing on 11 and 12, you need to do some more haggling or shop around at other dealers. They need to get the 11s out of there and should be able to do much better on pricing, along with 0% interest.

If it were a 2 door, I would say whatever gets you a better pricing but really on the Unlimited, there really isn't much of a choose. It really needs the extra hp and torque of the 3.6 for the much heavier JKU. It would have to be a very good deal on the 2011 to make it worth while. Of course you can regear the 2011 and get some of the power back but that cost would offset what you could get the 2012 for.
